I can't watch them either. They will shoot a 3.5 year old that might go 120 and they say it's a 150" make me want to puke. Being a OKIE I've got a pretty good source on the spook situation. I'm glad he got caught!

To try and help break this down a little. We produce and air 13 original shows, and then these same shows are or go into re-runs again giving the show a total of 26 airings. Now for commercials, we can either buy 4 minutes or 5 minutes of commercial time, the most popular is the 4 minute purchase. This 4 minutes gives the show a total of 8 commercials for the show's sponsors to purchase and have their ad on national television. The other 1 minute is used by the network for other manufactures that purchase ad placement on national television.
With our show counting commercials we have 26 minutes and 30 seconds of air time less the 4 minutes of commercial time leaving the total time of hunting to be 22 minutes and 30 seconds.
Now with some shows they do get breaks in air time cost but not many do, it takes roughly 100K per season to air a show on national television and more than twice that much on other networks such as the Outdoor channel. We try to cover as many aspects of hunting as we can and hope that we can make every show interesting and informative to the viewers, but with all that a person does there will always be a few that just do not like how the show is produced or approve of how the hunt was done. Our show where Wayne took a elephant with his bow, unassisted by any firearm drew a HUGE PETA audience as well as a full blown attack on us, attempting to portray all hunters as poachers. We along with many other fans of the show used politically correct facts to thwart off the attack and have since been left alone for now.
If there is something that the viewers would like to see more of and we are contacted by the viewers we try to make every attempt possible to find and film what ever it is that we are asked. This past season we were asked to explain arrows, arrow flight, and KE. With Wayne being a retired aeronautical engineer and holding three engineering degrees this was something that we did and it was a very informative 4 week episode of our Tech Talk on the show, we received several emails of thanks as well as emails of argument but in all we did what was asked.
We do not always get to take an animal as well, this next season will have Rachel chasing elk all over the colorado mountains but ended with no kill on film. Also on this same show we will have Rachel and X Game Olympic champion Chris Burandt on his personal training track using a Polaris Razor making some amazing jumps and just having fun, hope that all will try and catch the show as well as the others and I hope that we can answer other questions as they come..
We will have whitetail with rifle, bow and crossbow, as well as Aoudad and other on the show for 2013. We will have spring turkey and predator hunting and even some trapping for coyotes where we were lucky enough to get one in the 24 hours we had to get the episode filmed. We are a 100% in house production company that hunts, films, and edits every show all the way down to closed caption, so after the hunt is when the real work begins.
It is great to be able to come here and read all the post as it helps us understand what folks are looking for... Keep up the comments good and bad and we will continue to try and get what folks are looking for as long as it is within the networks guidelines as their guidelines are not the easiest thing to work with..

I have watched hunt wicked close tv. If yal have 22 minutes for just hunting then you do an increadibly poor job at maximizing the hunting time and thats putting it nicely.
It's hell eatin em live

Only shows I could every stomach was the old TTHA shows when Johnston owned it and kieth warrens hunting show.
Monster bucks was okay but they killed some marginal animals just to make a show
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Hunt Wicked Close, I seen the elephant episode and enjoyed it. There's always things some like and some don't. Personally I enjoy something that you don't see on others shows and I've only seen a couple other elephant bow kills on a TV show. Although for the most part I don't watch much whitetail hunts I did watch the hunt with wounded vets from last year. My brother was on that show, not hunting but was a medic there for the event. I tend to watch Texas shows because I know places and have hunted some of them. On several shows I've noticed that over the course of a few days certain things are repeated but when video is edited it is very repetitive because those things are put into 22 minutes.

Last hunting show I watched was at least 6 years ago, they shot a mule deer that was laying down, high fived and the "guide" said it was the best shot he'd ever seen. it was like 125-150 yards if I can remember right. made me want to puke

I wish hunting shows were more like the fishing shows of old where they weren't just catching big fish but offering tips, techniques, and set ups throughout the show so you were constantly learning but also watching some good fishing at the same time.

I'm on the couch with the laptop, surfing THF or unfortunately doing work sometimes, while the TV is on. Tim

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I am a co-host for a predator hunting show. See link below at www.macandprowler.com The reason most shows have to have commercials is the cost of doing business. Few people realize most shows cost $250,000 or so to air per year. Pursuit and Sportsmans are cheaper. Finding money sponsors with as many other shows out there is a competitive race that never ends. I am the shows marketing director so trust me, it's not easy. Integrating products and featuring them as part of the show is a better idea. I hate commercials and usually skip through them like everyone else does if I can.

I agree. Personally I think he is on an ego trip. Rumor in the industry is that he jumps from sponsor to sponsor for his show. I watch it since I love Texas hog hunting but also, it is entertaining. If you watch any of our tv show hunts, it's more about the hunt and the products we use. Educational. Not trying to make a big deal if ourselves. I think people like that more.

I dumped all the extra pay channels that had hunting shows because the shows, as said before, are chock full of commercials and material that is on the verge of being irrelevant. No one wants to see a guy take 5 minutes to explain something that can be legibly explained in 20 seconds. We(I) also do not care to see 5-8 minutes of recipes using their signature brand of grilling sauces or rubs. We do not care if he drives a Ford or a Dodge. We do not care about watching 10 minutes of commercials for food plot materials. We do not want to take a tour of their lodge or hear stories of their previous 300 hunts. We do not want to see a restaged scene. And most of all, no one wants to see a hunt that obviously takes place in a HF with animals that none of us will ever see in our entire lives. Personally, all I want is a show that shows a true hunt in a real world scenario. We want information and scenes that are relevant to the way "real people" hunt. If you plan on spending 10-20K on a hunt, then the Bucks of Tecomate may be your cup of tea, but I take away nothing from the show because I will never be in that situation. I can see big deer in pictures, I don't want to spend 30 minutes to just see 3-5 minutes of someone shooting a protein fed HF deer. To me, hunting shows should be like going to Church...if you don't walk away knowing more than you did when it started, it is useless. And some of these hosts have the personality of a Pet Rock. Give us a show where someone explains something like ballistics while in the blind waiting on the animals, or why he chose a particular caliber over another...things to that effect. Just my 2 cents, and for the record, all I watch now is Benny Spies and Razor Dobbs, at least they have good personalities that make the shows tolerable.

I agree. A lot of outdoor shows are now moving into "no BS hollywood" style hunting as most guys fell the same way. When ever I watch hunts now that I film and produce my own, I am pretty critical. Enough with the story, lets see some b-roll and kill shots man! Product integration in some way is necessary (AKA Sponsors) if you want to finance the project unless you are a zillionare and can afford to do it without money sponsors. Lots of competition. At SHOT Show, I met with one rather popular scent maker/eliminator company who sponsors some big names and he met with 15 shows there, not accepting any other meetings or appointments, and we still got in to see him. Lots of competition for the same resources.
