If a Browning or Beretta O/U fits you well, go for it. It sound like it is for field use fo get a grade 1 gun in the gauge of choice and be done with it. A little pricey, but low maintenance, easy to clean and sweet shooting. Otherwise the 3901 is a good choice if it fits.

My dad has a escort magnum and he loves it. Very rough on guns and it never jams. I have a p350 from stoeger and it is really picky about shells. It cycles high brass shells much better than low brass. It is a pump.

Isn't that what the yanks call shotguns? Field rifle? My entire family is from WV. I have never heard any of them call a shotgun a field rifle.

I bought a Browing A5 in 1977 and it has been around the world w/ me hunting ducks and pheasant as far as Japan and has never jammed once or misfired.
The sting of paying for quality will not last nearly as long as the sting of regret from trying to save a few dollars.

If it happens once every 100 or more shots that's ok No, it's not. That's like one hunt in 5 to 10 hunts. If I have one issue in that time I'm not going to cry about it.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

picked up the beretta 3901 camo max 12ga yesterday at rays sporting goods in dallas. Absolutely love the fit of it, and cant wait to get out there and try it out. It was a little on the high end at $769 but I save my $ and I wanted it so I got it. I wanted to trade in my pretty much new (used on 5 hunts probably 100 rounds maximum) stoeger p350 black w/ camo and he only offered me $100. So Ill have to find someone to sell it to for like $200- But ill figure that out later.

I'd recommend the benelli super nova.
I own a newer model rem 870 super mag, never had a real problem with it (only time I've had a jam with it is using 3" Rio BB shells, which I've seen jam in every shotgun I've ever seen anybody use).
I also owned the stoeger p350 and recently sold it - and I can tell you why you are jamming with it on 2 3/4 shells, because I had the same issue and figured out why (I think). The gun is made for up to 3 1/2 inch shells, and the loading (feeder?) plate that guides the shells from the magazine to the chamber is cut out on the side, to allow the shells to be ejected cleanly, or to save space, I dunno... The problem is, the side cutout is too far forward (and starts too close to the back) and the shorter shells tend to stick out to the right (through the cutout) when feeding up into the chamber, and catch on the ejection port on the right (this is how every jam I had with it occurred). I was going to contact stoeger and see if they had a fix for it, or whatnot, but I sold it instead.
I since bought a benelli super nova - has very little recoil with their improved stock design, and I haven't jammed once...

New 870s are crap. They jam all the time or so I heard. Get an older model Love when people say stuff like this. I have never had a problem with my Remington 870 wingmaster. Neither have any of my three cousins. Never listen to people who do not have first hand experience. So I guess you had to own a Yugo to know it was poorly built? Lots of folks avoid buying something they won't be satisfied with by doing the research first. Glad you're happy with your Wingmaster but that doesn't mean that they're all as good as yours.

I heard once that a Benelli jammed. They must be crappy guns... I heard once that a (insert any gun manufacturer) jammed on my brother's friends dogs step sister. Proclaiming all Remington's jam without experience is what I was going after. Guns will jam, but listening to advice like above is moronic, like your post.

If you want a cheapo option, the New England Firearms HR Pardner Pump from Dick's Sporting Goods has been an incredible value for me. I think Walmart carries it too. It's a carbon copy of the Remington 870. Check it out: Pardner Pump = Remington 870 Again, that's if you're looking to go real cheap. It's been an incredible value.

I've had my Nova for over 10 years and have yet to clean it. It goes BOOM every time I pull the trigger, and I use it about 30 hunts per year. When it was new, it jammed a couple times, but other than that, it has served me well. I'm not too hard on it, though. I keep it in the case till I get to the blind and wipe off the water drops, but that's it. I'm sure I would break it down if I dropped it in the marsh or mud, but I have yet to even clean the packing grease.

Funny to read all the posts about Remington being POS. I was so impresed (and still am) with my Grandfather's circa 1950 11-48, that I ended up purchasing a 2008 manufactured 870 Express Mag for around $275 at the time. Granted not the same fit and finish, not near as beautiful, but have never, be it Duck hunting, dove hunting, Turkey, or clays had a jam or any other issue at all. Not saying there are not problems with some of them, but from my experiernce, I would absolutely reccomend the Rem 870.
