What do you think all the money going to the TPWD is there for? So the Game wardens can drive nice trucks? You can't shoot everything that moves and hope it'll just magically be replaced.
That's what antler restrictions are for... so we can all kill trophy bucks. This guy will pay more in jail time and fees than a rapist, probability speaking. Like all other law enforecment, I wish we had 10x the numbers - I'd gladly pay my taxes for that, as opposed to "other" government programs. I seriously doubt this will deter more "locals" from poaching. Not enough law enforcement to catch most of them, and they know it. BTW, does the poacher care abount the 13inch rule? Kinda like gun laws - they only penalize the honest folks. Carry on...

What kind of truck was he driving? That may tell us a little more about his financial situation. If he is driving a King Ranch then I say throw the book at him. Neither scenario makes it right, but if he was starving... I may be more sympathetic. Was it a late model truck?

Throw the book at him. And don't try to justify what he did.

Do not get me wrong I am not trying to justify what that person did nor do I personaly agree with it. I'm just saying we do not know what this persons life is like. I personaly know at least ten people that are in the aviation field and was making around 70K + a year, less than a year ago. Now, they are on unemployment making less than 50% of their income or working any job they can get with the same results. Yet their debt is still the same and they are trying not to lose everything they have worked their entire life for. I do not know any of us that hunt that do not have bullets setting on the selves at home year around, and this person might not have had to drive less than a few miles to get to were he poached that deer. It is ashame that he did it. But, we know him not and and it is not our place to judge. It is the courts and Gods. So, lets get back to talking about something more important like legal hunting.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

You better judge him, because if you cannot judge him, then you cannot judge yourself. If you do not judge yourself, then anything goes. If anything goes, then robbery , assault, and murder are okay in the name of the family. This is black and white, he was wrong and should be punished.

Like I said, "It is the courts and Gods." not ours. Meaning a court appointed jury of his peers is the ones charge to judge, not a linch mob. Are are we back in TX in the 1800's, and if that the case no crime was even committed. I know we all have our opinions and are intitled to them. He deserves whatever the courts give him. Just it is not us that are in charge of this task. Lets not any of us try to say we have never broken a law, because if you drive then believe me you have broken at least one law at some point and time.

everything is legal until you get caught! I had a guy tell me that at an old deer lease, that was one of the first of many warning signs to high tail it from that lease. BTW he is now in jail and will be for some time to come.
