I heard gun shot, snuck in woods, after he left i back tracked his trail and found deer, hid deer and called wardens. when they got there he was in woods looking for deer and wouldnt come out so they waited. i drove by later and he was sitting on his tailgate getting the 3rd degree. he looked to be in his mid 30's.

Wow, I would have thought it would have been a young kid to do all that for a fawn. You would think a poacher in his 30's would be after trophies by that time. Maybe he was just getting started in the poaching business.

The bad thing is that if he fights the charges nothing will come of it. Most County/Proescuting Attoneys will not push the charges. I personlly caught 2 on MLD private property Dec. 26th 2008. There were a total of 7 adults & 1 12 yo boy. Only 2 were on the property, the others were on public property (river). The GW has written statements from several of the adults as to what the 2 were doing at that time and what had been done in the past. Nothing has been done about it as of this day by the local authorities.

LOL, he got caught on federal property, its a felony.

Wow, a spotted fawn. I bet he would shoot any thing that moves.( like you behind a bush)
If people need a deer that bad. Just go to the neighborhoods in N San Antonio with a sturdy grill guard on your pickup and drive fast. You can get some nice ones.
All kidding aside , what are they going to do about those urban deer down there? It is a growing problem. pigs will be next.

Doesn't make it right. He just as easily could have sold the gun he poached the deer with and used the money to buy food.

I was thinking the exact same thing...Still dont make it right, but I was thinking the same thing. Tough times make a man do strange things...I would like to believe that is what he was doing it for, it might make it easier to look the other way.

While the fact it was a fawn and not a trophy doesn't make it right, it does make you think it was for food.

Whatever. It was someone who got caught this time, but probably didn't get caught at previous times. Hard to feel even the least bit sympathetic.

Maybe he was just an East Texas transplant and thought that deer season was year round, like it is out there. bolt

Guys give me a break, once you factor in the price of gas, time spent, hunting equipment, and miscellaneous other costs this is not a viable excuse. If someone is in such dire need there are free govt programs available today to help such persons out.

I don't agree with what he did, and would never condone it. However, we are in hard time's and none of us know his life has dealt him and his family. If he is just trying to feed his framily I can see a person doing whatever it takes to make sure his family eats. However, He he has a job and can aford to take care of his family. Then I say get a rope. I hate to here of people doing things like that, but when I was young I know a family that the only way they eat was by what they killed or cought at the creek. So, Let us not be in to quick to judge others. Remember, Don't judge lest ye be judged.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

bang, again I will explain you have no grounds using this as an excuse for poaching in this day and age. Go get on a govt. program like foodstamps if your in need, before you can get back on your feet. With the cost of gas, bullets and other things essential to poach you are never going to convice me someone today is poaching to feed themselves. No they are not, they are poaching because they want to kill a deer and don't want to pay for a hunting license and lease.

You might think a little different if the person poaching was on your place. Maybe not though.

It's hard to tell when someone types something about their attitude, but it kind of sounds like you don't have any problem with people breaking the law. Now that you mentioned it, it really just as much my deer as it is anyone else who legally pays to hunt. What do you think all the money going to the TPWD is there for? So the Game wardens can drive nice trucks? You can't shoot everything that moves and hope it'll just magically be replaced.
