Wonder how much dna is shared between them and gray wolves? Could they interbreed? Google has estimated sizes that range, the biggest puts them at a bit larger than gray wolves but seems like there could have been overlap. Very little It’s 99.99% grey wolf. I think I read out of the 30k unique sequences to differentiate the dire from the grey , it has I think 12.

I read somewhere that grey wolves and dire wolves share 99.5% of their DNA. Humans share about 98.8% with chimps and 40%-50% with bananas.

We shouldn't be playing around with stuff like this. Just look where we are today because some fool said, "let's see if we can increase the liberal genes in humans."
If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you. "I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's point of view, but I can't seem to get my head that far up my [censored]." Senator John Kennedy, Louisiana

I have long ago predicted humans will eventually figure out how to make life from the primordial soup, and then claim "there is no God after all, look we just proved it"
the problem with that statement is they were given blueprints and material and they are simply replicating what God did from scratch. But plenty of "science" folks will fall for it and it may beacon the beginning of the next large-scale idol for people to worship over the one true God.

There’s more extinct species than there are species living today. It happens for a reason.

You can't make a Dire wolf from part of a skull and tooth! Just a modern wolf in Dire clothing. I'm sure they can, or have found preserved ones in the permafrost. If you look into it these are basically grey wolves that they have just genetically modified to be more like dire wolves.

I think the Border Patrol could use some dire wolves.

You still have the Arctic circle where yotes haven’t made it yet As I understand it, not even those have genes that are exclusively gray wolf. That's why I argue that the red wolf isn't anything more than a hybrid. There aren't any distinct "red wolf" genes that distinguish them from the grays or the coyotes.

I don’t think we should be improving the numbers of any wolves. There’s good reason people tried to exterminate them.
I also understand why it’s not a great idea to bring back wooly mammoths, but I can’t help but think how amazing it would be to see animals like that in person. Sorry, but I want to see that.
