Tariffs don’t bother me because I’ve got the ability to choose, to some extent, how I’m affected by them. The market situation bothers me because I’m on the cusp of retiring. Drawing down my investment portfolio in a bear market limits my ability to rebound when it reverses. It really sucks that I may have to push back retirement, but it’s becoming a reality I may have to consider. frown Trump is saying ride it out and we’ll all be in a better situation in 4 years. And for most folks that’s absolutely fine. But I’d like to retire now. Not in 4 years…….

We all rode out way worse without the potential for a positive outcome with Covid. In it to win it.

I not too risky and don’t really day trade. Still have another 8 years till I could even start to get into my retirement, so buying more at a lower cost works just fine for me. It will go up… it always does.

Feel bad for those who had planned to retire now but I do think this will be short lived. For those of with kids, we have to reset this thing for the sake of their future.

During every Presidency there is ways to make bank

Houses were dirt cheap during Obama run

Biden gave us nice CD Rates

Trump it appears as of now is giving us good time to buy stocks

Overall everything will work out in the end, it always does and market will jump back to be even stronger, Trump has a proven track record already with the markets.

I have increased my % to savings/investments. I plan to have 401k close to max by July and then will drop to save match. I did get screwed in my ESPP because it was so high on Oct. but should get a big refund to invest in other stuff so may work out. Those that tighten way down in big dips typically come out exponentially better than peers. Wife and I have really really tightened down on spending to take advantage of lower market.

The media over reports the market is dropping because they hate TRUMP and everything he does. Are they reporting every time a country wants to negotiate a new trade deal because of the tarrifs?? NO... The media wants people to think it`s never coming back up. They want to scare the public so they will get the democrats to win the midterms. It`s dropped many times before and always came back up. Knowing it will come back up eventually still doesn`t keep people from having anxiety over their investments. Especially if you are retired or near retirement. IMO... Anyone that is within 3-5 years of needing to live off of retirement funds should probably not be in the market at all. CD`s or some kind of an annuity would be the better bet. I even put about 45% of our $$$ into a 5 year MYGA @ 5.15% a while back just in case something like this happened. Time to HOLD FAST.

I just want the interest rate to skyrocket so I can clean up. Gold tanking again would be even better.

I think the bigger issue is whether the tariff and DOGE issues can be resolved to the public's satisfaction before the next mid terms. If conservatives are slaughtered in the mid terms, the final two years of Trump's current presidency and much of the first two will be inconsequential. Conservatives have to at least maintain the slim majorities they now have.

I pulled completely out of the market mid Biden term, all in cd's, annuity and bonds. So I'm less affected as others. But, seems to be a great time to buy back in a little.

I'm concerned, but for different reasons. Being in the Boat and RV business, my income fluctuates greatly with a down economy. The first four years of Trump were great. Increasing revenue each year. The past few years have been a steady decline to dismal. I was looking forward to an immediate increase under Trump like last time. That hasn't happened. Although I'm confident it will turn around, how long is it going to take?

I sure wish I understood the end game. If it truly is to bring back manufacturing on a broad scale, we gonna have to open back up our borders to get enough labor to run all the new manufacturing plants....

I think now would be a good time to buy in, but cautiously. Decide what to invest and invest a quarter or a third of that number. Wait a few days and buy some more. Don’t go in all at once.

I sound like a broken record on here but I have suggested many times for folks who are nearing retirement or in retirement to scale back their exposure to the market - when the market has downturns like this one if you have many years left before retiring then you have plenty of time to let the market rebound.

On the other hand if you are heavily invested while moving to or in retirement and going to begin drawing money to live on it can take a long time to recover a drop like this - most folks do not realize that if their investments drop by 20% for example and they still need to withdraw during that time for income then it can take a long time to recoup the loses just to get back to even. It is a simple math calculation -

Dkershens post above spells out exactly what I am referring to -

Same here. I am already retired and make it fine on non stock market funds. My stock market play is with my kids inheritance. Mainly in good dividend stocks.

I've got a couple mil in cash. Waiting for the bottom to capitalize on this buying opportunity.

If you are trying to bottom pick, it won’t happen. That’s why I suggested the third/third/third approach.
