I also went over the mixing instructions and pointed out that 0.3 ounces per acre in 10 gallons of water was how I sprayed it per acre. I also volunteered to spray his place of him.
He said he had it under control and sprayed it himself.
He purchased an 8 ounce bottle and mixed it in a 4 gallon backpack sprayer and applied it to around 2 acres. Needless to say it KILLED EVERYTHING he sprayed.

Derek, thanks for the information on theOver-the-top, I will get some and give it a try. We have coastal in a few flow beds that we have been fighting for years.

Lmao about your neighbor. That's exactly how it happens every time. I think you'll like over the top. Hence the name as there is a huge approved amount of plants you can spray it over the top of to control grassy stuff. As you know if it's bermuda in beds it's a never ending battle and it and any other is not ever going to be a once and done app. When I have time I like to have a beer and walk around the beds and just use an artist brush to paint on 41% gly on bermuda and sedges.

I rotate something different each year for my little raised bed two or three row garden. This year for the first time I planted potatoes. Mostly Yukon gold, but some red, white, and one little russet I found sprouted in my compost pile that I cut in half and planted. I turned in a bunch of compost and 26 seed potatoes 12 inches apart in two rows filled up the space. We shall see if there is any magic from my Scottish heritage, but my understanding is they are pretty easy to grow.

I took some sprouted Yukon Golds and split them. Took a large cardboard box and filled it with the bottom layer from my compost (I turn and move it twice a year) bin and planted the potato pieces in it. The plan is to keep layering so the taters will keep producing until it gets too hot.

Pass the gravy.

I went there tonight and they got another load in - got me a bunch of Jalapenos, and they finally have all the tomato varieties in - and the Red Dirt are ringing up 99c ea on the ticket!

Sweet! I already bought four giant jalapeno plants that are good sized and healthy from The Home Depot for $6 each but I could use more to cross-pollinate. I am pretty picky with tomato breeds but I will check them out. Thinking this might be the last cold snap.

I've had best luck in this area with the Better Boy , and for cherry tomatoes the Sweet 100.
Both grow huge with tons of fruit so require a real sturdy tomato cage.
I also now like the Green Zebra cherry tomato, they do well too and the flavor will blow your mind.

What tomato varieties do you look for/grow? As mentioned I like the Rodeo winners. I'll throw in a couple basic Roma's. Improved Porter is the best producer I've ever grown. At my old house I had more room and bent a 16' cattle panel in half and it completely filled it. Crazy amount of smaller great tasting tomatoes. I'll find a pic. Haven't grown them yet at the new place. Some of those indeterminates get crazy.

My all time favorite was Solar Fire but I have not seen any for at least ten years. I grew Early Girl last year I think. They're fine but they run out of steam as early as the come on. This year I chose Better Boy, Celebrity, and Large Red Cherry because that's what Atwood's had for $0.99 (among others). The plants are tiny but it's worth a shot over Bonnie brand at $5 for slightly better looking plants.

My Fertilome Over the Top II came in early so I can put that down probably Sunday or Monday because of Saturday's predicted rain. Onions are showing signs of life but still looks like I lost well over half. We shall see once it gets warmer.

Pass the gravy.

I finally got my onions in 10 days ago. I usually get them planted in January. This year I am late. Am I too late? Will they form a bulb?

I think they will be fine, possibly better. I put mine in so early in hopes they would not be in the way of my spring items like tomatoes and peppers.

Do y’all have peppers outside yet? I’m tempted to start today but saw there’s a chance for a frost next week.

I’m glad I didn’t start it yesterday. Woke up this morning to everything covered in frost..

I pulled my new lime tree inside last night and I’m glad I did. It’s already kind of in shock from potting it, so that wouldn’t have been good. Derek, I know you’ve posted about your citrus before. Is there anything you would do to help it along and get it established? It’s got good drainage and I fed it when I potted it, just not sure if there’s anything else I can do to help it.

Nothing really. Just keep it watered and fed and it will do good. I have to repot my larger lemon tonight. Saturday's storm knocked it out of pot and washed away most of the soil. No damage to the tree though. I also bought a Satsuma Mandarin on Saturday that I'm going to pot tonight or tomorrow. I give them a little liquid 20-20-20 fert every 4 weeks or so and sometimes sprinkle a little 13-13-13 granular on top. No real schedule there. Only time I had a problem was the drought of 2023. I didn't water them near enough and they didn't produce well at all. Once I got back to watering them well they bounced right back and did great last year. So far I find potted citrus plants really easy to care for.

The reason I got the Mandarian is the storm from early last week with the high winds all day blew my lime tree over and it rolled down the driveway and into the street a couple houses down. My daughter called me at 4:15 and told me. Said it was against the curb. I got home at 4:50 and someone had stole it. Nothing was picked up on a couple neighbors camera but it didn't just disappear. I want my Lemon to have a buddy so I got the Sat and it's on TX A&M Super Star list to grow.

Wow guess people will steal anything these days… good luck on the mandarin, post pics of the progress! HEB had 12 inch early flame jalapeños today for $8. Found a good one that had two separate plants in it so I’m happy about my $4 japs.

Got the lemon repotted and the Satsuma planted. Nothing special on the soil. Just blended these 3 together. Got the root flare exposed pretty well and broke up the roots good on the Satsuma prior to planting. I need to get a better pic of the lemon. It's covered in blooms.

I see the root flare exposed on the lemon but not on the Satsuma. Do you need to wait until mature/established to expose it? Asking because I have mine exposed on my new Persian. I ended up potting mine with a mix of cactus/citrus soil and black kow compost.

Once I get them moved to the backyard and watered well I will spend more time exposing the flare on it. And as it grows and has a more defined flare I can expose it more. As the lemon has grown of the past few years it has been easier to see can clean around the flare.

Ahh I gotcha! Got the last of my plants at Lowe’s on my lunch break earlier. This year will be 2 early flame japs, a poblano and basil for the wife. Plus the Persian lime. I had ZERO production last year and I think it’s because my bed was overcrowded. Had 2 mammoth japs, 2 poblanos and a tomato in one raised bed so we’re scaling that back.

My raised beds are 4x4 and I plant them pretty tight. I've talked to some gardeners much smarter than me and they have talked me into not tilling my beds in spring and just topping them off with just compost only and raking it smooth. So far it seems like it's really working well. This will be year 3 doing it. My production has been good. My pepper production in always best as soon as we break the summer heat they go crazy with production. I fertilizer with a water soluble 20-20-20. I do a liquid drench and foliar applications of it.
