Watching "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" while working in my office. IMO it stands in the category of a truly great film. Others I consider to be truly great are; Forrest Gump, Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Dances with Wolves.
What are some others that you would consider to be "truly great"?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I would agree that the original miniseries would fall under that category

Widely regarded in the Top 100 of all time of most rankings...Godfather I and Godfather II are top 5 in most of those rankings. Citizen Kane often is #1 in those rankings. I'll put 2000's Oscar winning Film of Year, Gladiator out there.

I blazzing saddles, Airplane, Monty python and the holy grail, blues brothers, animal house. I'm with bigbob, and will add Casablanca and The African Queen for a little drama.

American Beauty American Beauty is one of my all-time favorites. Very dark movie but Annette Benning is drop dead gorgeous. The drive-thru scene is epic.

The love story at the end was a little cheesy, but Val Kilmer was the star of that movie...... Had Val Kilmer not been in the movie, I don't think it would have been as popular as it is. He truly made the character his own. Having Charleton Heston show up towards the end didn't hurt either. They could have left out the love story at the end of the film. He did in fact meet back up with Josephene Marcus, but they didn't live happily ever after, they had a very tumultuous relationship. They did remain together, however, until his death
