We will be running a slightly different format this year. Each shooter will get to shoot two 10-shot relays for points. The top eight shooters will then be in a eight-man single elimination bracket to determine the winner. Cash payout to the top three shooters if we have enough entries. Each relay you will have 3 minutes to finish 10 shots. The bracket will be shot the same as last time. Scoring , 8 inch Target one point, 5 inch Target two points, 3-in Target three points. Match fee $40 date Saturday March 18th 8:30 a.m. don't be late. We will still be shooting Cold bore first thing in the morning as a $10 side pot. Front bipod and rear sandbags used for Shooting . Shooter May shoot from the bench or prone their choice . 30 caliber and smaller . Please let me know if you are wanting to participate.

Come prepared to shoot 500 yards. If you send a round down range and do not at least hit the berm which is 6 ft tall and 30 yards wide you will be disqualified from the match. Also the bolt to your rifle must be removed from it at all times except when you are ready to shoot your relay.

Wouldn’t that keep shooters with thinner barrels away? We’ve had to wait for a barrel to cool before. How about 4, 5 shot relays or even 7,7,6? With past levels of participation we really don’t need to keep people away.

This program doubles the amount of shots I get to take!

Why would we keep things the same since we had lack of participation. Now a shooter is guaranteed to get 20 shots. Before we waited for a barrel to cool when the guy he was shooting against had a cool barrel we wanted it to be fair. Now everybody will be doing the same exact thing. If your barrel gets hot his will be too. It is impossible to make everything perfectly Fair without overly legislating the whole thing and telling you what you have to bring as for a gun. If you feel your barrel is too thin then put a bigger barrel on it . I do not recall seeing guns that had such tiny barrels it would be bothering them. I know you're six creedmoor can handle it you just need to know your weapon.

I plan to be there. This is my favorite format.

If we start adding on too many relays then we will be out there until 4:00 in the afternoon shooting. This format was used in West Texas and they were finished up by 12:30 1:00 . In the summer of the mirage will already be rough by 12: 30. We go a couple hours longer than that and it would be brutal

I like these rules much better. I always draw a ringer first round. Normally Tony. This would give me a much better chance of making it to the finals than going out first round just because I’m terrible at drawing opponents lol.

Hot barrels. Lol. In his prime, Schwarzenegger couldn't curl some of the barrels that show up at Senior's matches.

Much better format. Under the old format, you could be 11 rounds and out. This included shooting the cold bore.
10 rounds and a good spotter you could be dialed in for the match.

Question on having the bolt removed, can we use a flag instead? I as as I can't remove my bolt without removing my cheek pad and I'd rather not have to adjust it each time. Thoughts SR?

The reason for removing the bolt is while the competitors are getting their guns up on the line and set up we will be downrange painting. So I do not want any bolts in the gun while I'm down there painting. We are doing this to save time so the match does not take all day. This is the way the guys in West Texas are running their match now. I will have the same problem you do.

Solution looking for a problem. How many times have we called cold range and went down range to fix a flipped plate? We do that and don’t require the bolts out of the gun. Hell if anything I think it would take more time for everyone to get their guns and take the bolt out than it would if you just called cold and everybody guns off their rifles and ran down and painted.

The difference is when we call cold range nobody is allowed to touch their gun when we go down range. Now when we go down range to paint shooters will be removing their guns from the firing line and the new shooters will bring in their guns up to the firing line and getting set up. Such as putting their cheek riser in and making sure it's correct.That will definitely save time and I am not going down range with a bolt in their gun and somebody handling it. In . In the first two relays each shooter will be shooting 10 shots the targets will be getting pretty shot up so we will probably have to paint after every group of shooters during the 10 shot relays. We can skip the painting and I can let you shooters rely on being able to read the reaction of the target or the impact in the dirt if you miss to read your corrections is fine with me. You can have your own spotter helping you. What direction do you guys want to go. I personally don't care if we paint or don't paint. You guys need to let me know what direction you want to go on this.

I don’t know about the pics. I can say that your concern about hot barrels was not a thing yesterday. If I felt anything with my numb hands it was a slight warmth to the barrel. Come summer that may be a factor. It will definitely be a know your rifle game.

Again, I really like this format better. You’re competing against yourself for the first half. This allows me to miss twice as much before I get to sit down and shut up.

Other than the gail force north winds, I like the new format and as always I had a great time. Especially, getting my first win against some great shooters!!! Thanks again Senior for putting on a great shoot, looking forward to the next.

It was a great shoot and the new format is definitely a winner. The wind kicked my butt but didn't seem to affect some of the others as much. Spotted for Scooter on one relay and watch him just poor in the shots on the 5" target, great shooting. Thanks Sr, Jr and David for another great shoot.

That was my first time shooting that format I also thought it went well and enjoyed it we will be sticking with it.

I was discussing with someone at the match about the 36mm tube and the Spuhr Mount having an offset where you would mount the Send-It level, making it unusable without a spacer that would have to be made. You may already know this but they do sell an extended offset that will work off of the rail if that’s an option for you. There is enough room on the tube for the send-it depending on the length of your rail and how the scope is positioned in the Spuhr. Anyway, I’m terrible with names and don’t know if you’re even in this forum but it’s a thought.

Anyone shoot a 6.5 Creedmoor and win any of these matches? I know most shoot some type 6mm

When I shoot it, I use my semi custom Tikka 6.5CM built by Tony. Think the highest I've gotten was 2nd (Lost to Bailey). It is definitely doable with 6.5CM though.

I believe this winner was shooting a .260 ai. That’s about as 6.5 as it get. I know the Creedmoor is baby Jesus though so I’m sure it’s a winner.

She finished 2nd in one match and I also finished 2nd once. First time I shot my gun I won the cold bore.

I remember you both shoot those sweet Remy's.

Buzz, for just the steel matches & other target shooting I’d go 26” in the future so I could get better velocity with less powder to conserve barrel degradation…..but with your habit of selling that wouldn’t be a concern. Go with whatever bullet weight gives you the best accuracy, if it’s close I would go 140 also to conserve barrel with the bonus of less recoil.

I saw something like this out there and it performed spectacularly.

I went with 140gr ELD over 42.7gr of IMR 4451 and Federal GM210M primer. Best group at 200 yards was .473”

That was me.......I have something else I'll try for this. The little spacer can't be that hard......it can be slightly larger and still work.

Wow 18 seconds per shot, 10 in 3 minutes! Does everyone get off 10 aimed shots in that time frame? What is the best 10 round magazine for a Remington short action?

It's 4 minutes for 10 shots, that's plenty of time. No issues at the last match and I was loading them one at a time in my bolt gun.

What were the winning scores?

I like 4 minutes much better. First post on this thread says 3 minutes.

It did say 3 minutes but I shot in the first relay at the match and found three minutes was not enough time so we changed it immediately to four.

How is the target configured?

3 steel targets: 8” = 1 point, 5” = 2 points, 3” = 3 points. (Somebody correct me if I’m wrong).

Are they in a vertical line?

Horizontal

10 shots in 4 minutes and tough targets at that. I might be willing to spot for someone and I am good at it.

Bring a gun and have at it. I promise you can’t do worse than me. Last time I think I had 3-4 points.

Well I got my old broke down hide out today and did a drill from prone. Well lets say I fired a few rounds. 4 to be exact from my bolt rifle. Wore myself out getting my rear bag set up right getting up and down is a killer! I shot at a paper plate set up at 200 yards and all 4 were in a left to right line almost touching. I also fired 15 or so shots from a very accurate AR15. I did ok accuracy wise there but can't use it. I am too old and stiff to single load 10 rounds from a prone position in 4 minutes. I give credit to those who can.

Prone is optional. There are benches to use. If I got down I’d have to have help getting up.

2/3 of the people shoot from the bench. Make sure you read a thorough description of the match and what is expected

My wife was watching me set up for prone out the kitchen window. Says it was obvious I wasn't enjoying it! That said I thought the benches were for the old broke down geezers. For some reason I didn't look at myself that way! I can say for certain if you practice getting up off the ground you should be careful you don't do something that might need surgery to correct. I now accept the broke down geezer label.

Perfect, rickt300, come shoot from the bench like the rest of us! Guaranteed good time!
