Being in north Tx your teal hunting is gonna be a little different than on the coastal plain. More movement & less birds. Not to say you won't be covered ,but the little I have experienced in our area where we bought our place(young county) definitely a lot more hit & miss. I do most of my hunting on the coast or fields not far from it. Most of the action is the 1st hour or so ,but I have killed plenty of birds by sitting by the ponds till 10:30 or so. I love being out chasing teal ,so I would rather sit by the pond than in town.

Early Teal is my favorite season of all & will be starting my 16 day run in the morning.
Good Luck to All hunting!

Went on my first teal hunt Sunday morning, was done shooting by 7am. Doubled on two pairs, then picked singles out of two 20+ groups.

Real slow in SE Louisiana. We shot 3 teal Saturday and 2 Sunday. We saw more teal here a moth ago, I am stumped.

Back to back 3 man limits this weekend. Decent sized groups hitting the decoys, and Sunday was over before 7:30.

Mixed reports everywhere. We are hunting 3 guns Wednesday and just me and a buddy Saturday. Red Hot Chili Peppers Sunday with kids and parents. 3x hunts last week if not 4. Seeing birds on cams in Fannin and Van Zandt Co. my wet land South looks incredible. Lots of millet and smart weed. [Linked Image]

Haven’t even put water on my food yet. Have a few crap weeds growing I need to pull out of there. But my millet is coming in pretty thick this year. Would rather save my groceries for big ducks in November thru January.

Barnyard grass thrives in shallow water- I wont get the reseeding from early maturing millets- but my well is good for about 1/2 inch per day- invertebrates and lots of seed everywhere. Needed to capture a foot or 2 from this last rain.

Good luck.

I hear ya Greek. I have a little barnyard myself. But I’m fine with it. Full of seeds. I just need to pull out those leafy weeds right there in front of our blind.
Prolly about to put boards back in and try to catch any free water til I turn my well on late October.

I went out this morning in NTX and saw a decent amount flying around. Nothing incredible, but several groups of 10-15 birds cruising.

After a slow start opening weekend the cool front brought some teal to SE Louisiana. We hunted Wednesday morning and shot 17 teal compared to 3 Saturday and 2 Sunday. It was a slow start to the hunt with 1 duck down until 7:20 when all hell broke loose and the teal started flying. It was a fun 45 minutes of action. Don't know why it was so slow in the beginning of the hunt.

Hunting this weekend, I hope the teal are still around.

If you ever get near New Braunfels check in. I can fix you up, had to let my lease go and guides don't take individuals

Academy was the only place I’ve found smaller shot in stock. Have been using 2 3/4” #7s.

That is pretty shocking- here today, gone tomorrow- I would imagine w numbers being up quite a bit should get a push in a few days - not sure if worth hunting. Getting report soon from a group that hunted The Lake..........
