0 for 1. Of course, Ive got about as much chance of winning the lottery as drawing that darn antelope tag. Need to quit being lazy and get the rest of my apps in.

0 and 5 for me. I think I registered for as much as I could this year (for gun, at least). Guess I'll register for as many of the remaining that I can. I briefly looked into Oklahoma non-resident drawn hunts. Seems like it would cost as much or more as some doe hunts people have posted in Texas.

This is my first year in Texas, and accordingly, my first year doing draw hunts. I didn't draw the archery tag at Walter Buck but will hopefully get drawn on one of the other deer hunts. 0 for 1 so far...

WileyCoyote, I got you beat on having the most preference points on a category. I have 17 preference points in the Gun Deer Either Sex. Will be 18 if not drawn this year.

So do you only get one PP per year ? So, with 17 PP's you've not been selected for Gun Either Sex 17 years straight ? And those of you with the massive amounts of PP's are yall just putting in for the primo areas ?

Erok11, Yeppers, in the Texas Lottery you get a PP every time you pay's your App Fee & doan't get drawn. Can't speak for others ... but when I have drawn a particular Hunt and get zeroed out, like will happen on this years PLA Hunt selection ... in some Categories I will purposefully put in for high participation/low expectation of getting drawn aka high App/low # of Permits available Hunts that are scheduled EVERY year that I'd just LUV to hit on and don't really expect to get drawn for like mebbe one of the Kerr or Mason Mountain Hunts...and "build up " my PP count. Then when a really primo Hunt that is not sched'd every year shows up ... like the South Llano River SP GDA freezer filler is...I have some "leverage" from the extra PP shots at scoring a Hunt...hence my comment that I have decided "No Mas" on SLRSP. In the ummm 15/20 +/- years I've been messing with the Texas Lottery, and I've put in for SLRSP GDA Hunts whenever they were offered until this year, I've had GDE/GDA Hunts Drawn at Guadalupe River SP, Walter Buck and mebbe couple others but I'd need to pull all my research tables & field notes to know for sure ... and NEVER set foot on SLRSP except to drive out one night after the Walter Buck WMA Hunt in '99 and saw the largest mixed ungulate herd of WT's & Axis (for sure and mebbe some Sika too???) I've ever seen in real life, run across the road for 9 1/2 minutes by my digital dash board clock without a break in the low water crossing. thats why the SLRSP Hunter Success Rate% in this years Guides is 193% or ???
Texas is the only State Lottery I know of that runs the Lottery system this way. Other states, like in the Rockies particularly that I am most familiar with, draw totally different, with the highest PP Holders getting first pick starting with the highest PP counts, then working the Permits down until all the Permits are issued. Usually results in keeping the PP's from ever reaching double digit PP counts ... unless you are talking about Montana Moose tags, some of the Sheep tags or mebbe some of the really primo Trophy Elk & MD Units.
Oh Well...when in Rome. Ron

At $3-$10 an App in the Texas Lottery, I will keep "playin' tha game" as long as I can still toddle around.
I've never had a Bad Hunt, while I only have a 30+% successful harvest rate for all of my Hunts. I've seen some real success stories in Better Management. GRSP & James Daughtrey most recently come to mind when "issues" were ID'd and positive changes made...and I will continue to seek new adventures in new places wherever possible in this system because of the good memories I've had.
Only thing that really makes me think about quitting the TP&W Lottery Hunts is the ever increasing numbers of Non Resident Hunters that are allowed to take advantage of my TP&W Texas Tax Dollars At Work...and I'll get censored if I go any farther with this. Ron

I stopped applying for the archery deer hunt at Fort Boggy a few years ago. TPWD "authority" has ruined it by making it an archery hunt "By assigned blind", as opposed to "By assigned compartment". Their idea of blinds are 3 wood pallets stacked up and a cinder block to sit on.
This is for an ARCHERY hunt. What a JOKE.
This might work for a gun hunt with corn, but for an archery hunt it's a waste of time. And the kicker is the TPWD person managing this hunt wants to drive you to and from your pallet stand - forget hunting all day. They will drive up and honk saying it's time to go in.
I hunted Fort Boggy years ago and the guy managing the hunts was Roy - very good TPWD law enforcement guy. It was kept simple and made for the hunters to ENJOY. This idea is gone, so I no longer apply for the Archery Deer hunts. I have other public areas better than this option - for now at least.
BTW, in 3 or 4 years I expect to see plenty of big 13 inch plus bucks in Cooke, Freestone, and Lamar counties. If not - I want a refund from TPWD on my license fees as they FAILED to "MANAGE" the bucks properly.
Amen.

I got disqualified in two categories, Gun Deer Either Sex and Gun Mule Deer! How in the world did that happen??? I had 4 DIFFERENT people on each card, 4 DIFFERENT SS#'s...I suspect someone on my card may have wound up on someone else's card too. Thats the only thing I can think of.
Does anyone know if there is a way to find out exactly why we got disqualified?

We send out either a Letter of Selection or a Non-Selection card within a day or two of doing the drawing. The drawing does not take place on the day of application deadline, usually anywhere from 2-4 days up to a week after the deadline.
