i'm 63 and still working... Looking hard at retiring this year after the wife turns 65 (I'm a year behind her). The thing is, we've done most of the things people talk about wanting to do when they retire, ie traveled the world, the US and most of Texas. Our grand kids live close and we see them every week. Money shouldn't be an issue, but of course that isn't a thing we can control 100%.

I hit 60 in a couple months, and could retire if I wanted or needed to. The gap years for insurance is the issue for me and my wife. I may "semi-retire" between now and 65 as a way to fund the insurance need and get time off to travel.

This what I’m trying to accomplish….do my retirement while I’m working. If I do ever officially retire and stop working in any capacity, I’ll golf and fish and eat at the same restaurant everyday. I’m not putting off trips and activities now in hopes I’ll get to them in retirement.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The Wife's Blue cross blue shield has sure come in handy this last year. I'm 60, the 5 year gap to SS Medicare would be a killer without our BCBS.

At 54. My company closed the local plant and retired me. Best thing to ever happen. Still do my hobby business. Save more now than ever and work when I want to. Retirement is sweet and stress free.

I retired at age 49 in 2020. 25 years is the minimum for sworn personnel in my city. I could have stayed for the DROP but didn't need to.

Hoping about 28 months before I go into semi retirement. Will be 55. I won't be doing what I am doing now, but will be doing something.

I have done financial planning for 42 years. From the real world here is the truth.

Nobody but nobody has the same situation as someone else. So many factors involved.

Some folks financial situations allow them to retire early. Other folks situation allows them to retire early but they are not there mentally - they enjoy work and are afraid of getting bored if they retire.

Some folks do not have the financial means to retire early but they do anyway and then find out they do not have enough money to live the lifestyle they wanted.

I can go on and on with the various places people find themselves -

End of the day each of us needs to focus on our own personal situation and try to make the right decisions for where you are in your life based on a realistic and honest determination of your finances and your enjoyment of working or not working

You can't fix stupid

Got Riffed at 63 from Corp. America. Looked for work for about a year. When your 63 in my business no one is interested. Hung it up this May at 65 and never looked back. Wife turns 65 this August and will be on Medicare also.
No worries for us life is good.

I'm 40. If I can find a good insurance plan that isnt astronomical; I'll retire by 45. Otherwise its 55.

I've been retired for 4 weeks now, and my wife said this week, that I look "fresh." I feel fresh too even though DFAS is screwing around with my retired military pay waiver.

62 in two weeks. Could have retired prior. Love what I do. When no fun, I will walk away. Until then, I’ll keep helping people.

Retired 3 years ago at 46 from a major metro Fire Service. Will say this retirement isn't all its cracked up to be. I'm enjoying life but after years of supporting a family and being part of something much bigger than myself I find I miss it.

After about 3 months of retirement, my Dr had to cut my blood pressure medication in half due to the lack of stress.

I will be retired on Tuesday, I’m 59 1/2. Not sure what’s next, but I’m looking forward to it. I know my financial situation, but have no idea how much time I have left….

Retired from a 22 year LE career on Dec 31 at age 52.
Just way too much BS with my employer and the public.
I was off for about 2 weeks and stumbled into a pretty cool
part-time job. Wife has a good job that allows her to
work from home. I made about 1k more "retired" this month
than I would have made if I had stayed with the LE gig.

So I really just changed jobs and collect a pension payment.
Can't just not do anything. I've pretty much had some sort of
job since I was 12. Always seem to have something going on
to generate income. Don't plan to stop doing that.
