I retired about 67. Now 79. Financially secure so no $ problems. However, if my wife keeps going to casinos, that could change. If I don’t manage money well, it could change.

I tell everyone that it’s the most boring job I’ve ever had. I’ve already done dang near everything that I want to do.

My plan is 60 to get out of the corp world...we'll see how that goes. Honestly not sure I'll make it that long.

I work about three days a week, just a few hours each day. At 66, everything is in place, financially, but my wife still has a few years left and we both work at home so it's easy to keep going. I still have plenty of time to do all the other stuff I enjoy and the income is still good.

I will hang it up completely one day but I'm not sure when at this point.

I retired this last Dec 31...2 days after I turned 62. I'm so much happier now AND I've lost almost 10lbs since!

The wife couldn't keep working and standing all day because of her back, so when she turned 62 and could get SS she retired. I was 66 then and still enjoying work, but felt I should pull the plug also and we would play together for a lot of the time. Still miss the work, and enjoy it when they call and need some info or help. The secret is having a life and something to do. Stay active and get away from that TV.

I got retired at 64. The people who owned the airplane I worked on decided it was cheaper to lease or charter an airplane than own a 727. I now actually do more physical work keeping up the place. Have plenty of money so no worries there. Just enjoying life as long as I can.

It was 56 for me. I was offered other jobs. Duh. I left a good jog.

I retired from the .gov jobs after 31 years plus, at age 50. Was self employed feeding deer, drove 18 wheeler for awhile, worked as an EMT and finally quite all income generating activities at the end of November past. IRS was killing us.

Retired November of 2020 at 73. Enjoyed my job but new owners started bringing in young bucks and didn't want to have to prove my worth against them. Miss it but not going back since I enjoy the laid back life I now have.

I hope to retire from this job at 59 and then use my hobbies as my new business venture. I can't see not working. My folks are retired but can jellies, peppers, pickles for sale. They also sale there pecans, tomatoes and watermelons. They used to just give the stuff away but now they sell enough to get get gas money for their road trips so it's seasonal work. Both are in their late 70's and going strong. Praise the Lord!

I just turned 49. I've got 3-6 more years in me. Always planned for retirement when my youngest graduated high school, and that happens in 2024. I'm still enjoying working so that may extend, but not past the age of 55. Seen too many people work too late in life and not get to enjoy retirement because of health and/or death. I want to retire while I'm young enough to enjoy it.

I retired at 62. I really wasn’t in a hurry to retire, but I had an opportunity to go out with full pension and a year of severance. It has been real good for the wife and I. And we were young enough to travel and see some of the world.

My advice, and it’s worth every penny you paid for it, is to retire as early as you can afford to. You don’t want to be old and worn out when you retire. Sitting around when you are too old to do anything but wait to die is not retirement.

55 after 34 years in the fire service. I still have a small business for spending money.

55 is my goal - 46 now. Not sure if I can take nine more years of this madness.

Semiretired in 2015, at 63. 40 years of HVAC work was beginning to take its toll on my body, time to get off the roofs. But, wasn't ready to completely stop. So, I stopped commercial work, only taking residential work. Plan was to fully retire at 70, which is this year. Tired of paying 15.3% self employment tax that doesnt help me and I am ready. Wife is 7 years younger and still enjoys working, hopefully she will pull the trigger in a couple years.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

As soooooooon as possible.

Realistically, that is probably 4 - 5 years. I have always assumed "Retired" meant not punching a clock every day, but still doing some level of consulting work. Depending on how the industry is doing, I could potentially say F O to the full time job sooner, instead of later, if we were comfortable relying only on consulting gigs. I'm good with that, the wife is terrified on not having benefits and a regulars paycheck.

I turn 60 in about a month, but the wifey is 6 years younger than I am, that enters into the equation.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

Well I'm 44 yrs old and have no retirement plan. The money that I'd like to be contributing to a 401k goes to child support, and will for the next 11 + yrs. So I guess I'll be working until I die, and I'm ok with that. If I follow in the footsteps of every man on my Dad's side of the family I won't live to retirement age anyway. smile

One thing I didn’t mention, and it can be important, is medical coverage in the gap years (if there are any) between retirement and Medicare. I had coverage from the company I retired from, thankfully.

Our company had the 80 point rule. As Imgot closer to retirement, I wondered what that meant. It only meant medical would be there.

60 can be a big hill to climb depending on your situation. Healthcare coverage until you get to 65 is expensive. Without a pension you will need a couple million bucks to not outlive your money…..
