300 Ham’r. Night and day better performance than 5.56 and ammo is relatively cheap. Often times on hogs there is opportunity for more than one shot so I prefer a semi auto vs a bolt gun which I prefer for deer.

Whatever I have at the time. Normally a 30.06 or 270 in rifle, or a 40 cal pistol.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

If I am specifically going for pigs, a 6.8 with 120SST hand loads shot from an AR with 16" ARP barrel.
Prefer the AR over pretty much everything else I have tried as I usually hit sounders and a bolt action is a joke when pigs go multiple.

If I am cruising around in the Mule, It could be anything from .22 to 12ga...just whatever I have with me!

Normally a .308 ar10 pistol that I use for deer hunting if I catch one out while I’m still in y stand, or my 300blk or my galil in 7.62x39 when we go out to thin the sounders.

And to the placement is key talk, I’ve never had an issue with either of those 3 downing a hog quickly until a couple of weeks ago when I forgot to bring soft points for my galil. Only had subsonic fmj. Didn’t think much about it but it ended up taking 4 rounds(5 shots) to bring a 110lb Razorback down. Hit him quartering away under the shoulder but the bullet deflected inside and came out his under belly, he took off running and I put another in his head which only slowed him down so I could put another in his chest… he finally died but I wasn’t pleased with myself. I switched to my 300blk with pig punishers after that. My subsonics are now and quiet but they just don’t do much damage even at 40yards.

When I’m in the deer blind, I have my Marlin 30-30 for the deer and Marlin 22 mag for the hogs. The 22 mag is typically my walk around gun too. I have an AR set up with IR scope, but I have yet to get to shoot anything with it.

If I’m hunting hogs out of deer season I usually have a .45-70, .338 Win Mag, and this year I’ll be bringing along my .44 mag. Otherwise it’s whatever I’m deer hunting with

41 Mag lever sounds like a unique winner.

At night I have an ar15 with a night scope that works fine. During the day I usually break out my ar10, or whatever deer rifle I have at the time.

Over the past several years, I have guided hunts for several outfitters and a good many charities (military, church, etc.). Several hundred "hunters" over that period. Those numbers have included all kinds of folks from newbies to military. By and large, a huge percentage of folks can't place a round where it needs to be....many of them, not even close. I can't tell you how many times I have worked to get "hunters" within 40 yards and not a single hair touched on a single hog. That is frustrating. I remember a night with a large outfitter. He had 12 hunters out, together, at this point. Stupid, but I ain't runnin' the show. There was a good number of hogs across a fence, 50ish maybe. They are, give or take, around 50 yards out from the fence. Favorable wind. A gully in between us and the fence. I set back and watched. He managed to get this thundering herd down through the gulley and up to the fence without the hogs spooking. That's actually better than I thought it would go. They lined up along the fence, 12 of them. The firing commenced. Off the hogs go. 30 round mags emptying. Lead flying everywhere. Cease fire is called, guns on safe. Two hogs lay dead. This sort of shooting is way more the norm than most folks think. Shot placement can be discussed, but I am convinced it isn't on the radar for a high percentage of shooters. That comes from the experience of observing a large number of folks in the field over time.

On a positive note.... The best person I ever took out was a recently retired SEAL. This guy was amazing. It was for a university group that was raising money for a scholarship for their school at the university. His brother had won the auction for the hunt. I have taken a lot of military guys out and I hate to say, but I have generally been underwhelmed. This guy though... It wasn't just his shooting which was never miss. He definitely racked up body count. It was his ability to move through woods like no one else. Completely silent and fast! I will never forget that hunt.

dfwroadkill, also my experience. The past 3 groups I've had in both missed/wounded hogs from 25-60yds shooting from a good rest. Two missed hogs shooting from the same box blind that was 60yds from the feeder!!! It seems most "hunters" never practice from field positions or fully realize the importance of precise shot placement. It also seems the ones shooting bigger calibers think they can just shoot a hog anywhere and kill it. One "hunter" from two different groups wounded hogs with a .338 Fed that we never recovered. I shot over 650 hogs in 2021 with a 300 HAM'R and recovered all but 8-10 of them (running shots). I try to shoot them in the center of the neck though (preferably with them quartering to me so if I miss the spine the bullet goes into the lungs).

6.8 loaded with Hornady 120 SST and suppressed. I shoot the neck or shoulder. DRT every time.

The wife and I have been using 6.5 Grendel, my son uses a 7mm-08. We have had excellent results with both calibers .
