I have had Torro Zoysia installed before at another home and loved it. I have been sold on this new zoysia called Zeon Zoysia. Has anyone had and first hand experience with this brand of Zoysia? I understand it is more drought and cold tolerant than Zorro.

The yard will be 80-90% sun these oaks are gone tomorrow.

Another question is,....reel mower or normal mulching blade?

Thanks.

St Augustine under a pecan tree. It will all be green after I mow off the first bitten tops.

I had the zeon zoysia and it didn’t last but 2 years. It was beautiful at first... very thick and green. My problem is my neighbors huge pear tree casting shade all over my yard. Had to go with St Augustine and it has been working well. Sounds like you don’t have the shade problem, so I’d think you will be okay. I mowed it with a regular Honda mower and it worked just fine.

Growing up we had tiff grass and used a reel mower made by McLane if I remember correctly and it was a beast. I would double cut the front yard and you could putt on it.

my parents did zoysia grass last year in a probably a close to 8-9 hour a day sunshine area, it did great, but you've got to WATER IT in the summer. i let a soaker hose run on it for about an hour every other day, i think. it went all bare dirt this winter, but its coming back in a few spots now.

Reel mower and maintained under 1" is the route I'd go. I'd talk to CT direct instead of going thorough HD. You won't be able to buy from them I don't believe, but they will let you know the non box stores that you can by from that can do blade relief and/or bed knife sharpening if needed. That's not a easy source to find. Backlapping will serve you well. Oh and get a grooved front roller from reel rollers.

Reel mower will put a nicer close cut on it. Downside is the blades require more maintenance.

If you want that grass to live you better be installing a drip irrigation system before you lay it out...
