Hello, I'm new to the forum here. I specifically joined to partake in this thread after reading all 58 pages of it. There is a metric crap ton of great info about this caliber in this thread!!

What piqued my interest in this caliber is that to me it overcame the short comings I had noted with 300BLK. I was fortunate enough to already have 9lbs of A1680 on hand from when I was dabbling with 300BLK and plenty of primers. A local vendor had a huge stash of Hornady 135gr FTX bullets and Starline had brass available. Therefore it made perfect sense to go all in on a brand new caliber in the middle of one of the biggest component shortages ever!! Somehow two weeks ago I was able to snag 18lbs of CFE BLK from Powder Valley, so I'm good for 5k+ rounds now. smile

I recently built my first HAM'R upper with a WC 16.2" barrel, WC gas tube & block, WC BCG, as well as WC 15" handguard. I couldn't find a WC stripped upper anywhere and I was not willing to delay the build. Perhaps I may be able to locate a WC upper receiver for my second upper build, which is going to be a 11.3" PDW. wink

I'm awaiting the arrival of my HAM'R RCBS dies from WC. I noticed a post on 18Feb21 that they were inbound to WC. I'm been using my Hornady 300BLK seating die with good success so far to manufacture my initial test rounds. Function of the assembled upper has been flawless, and the accuracy has been superb with both A1680 and CFE BLK using the Hornady 135gr FTX. I don't know if it's been complete dumb luck or the cartridge is just inherently accurate over a broad range of charge weights, but dropping a few tenths below listed max charge yielded sub MOA for both powders. I'm very impressed with the cartridge so far and am looking forward to eliminating a few piggy's with it soon!!

The standard spring that comes on a JP SCS wasn't anywhere near strong enough to strip live rounds off the top of a magazine, I ended up having to bump it up two more "sizes" just to get a proper function test after putting on my upper.

Bunsen,
I'm sorry sir, but this is the internet! You are only allow to gripe, complain and generally bad mouth any other post before yours! grin

But welcome to the club. In all of the bullets I've tried that were suitable for the 300 HAM'R obtaining MOA has proven rather simple. I may have to tweak the powder charge slightly for the best best groups with each barrel, but overall the HAM'R has proveen itself as an accurate cartridge!

Enjoy!

This is the product I ordered but it is not showing anymore: ITR-FWBS40 AR-15 Flat-Wire Buffer Spring, 40 Coil | 6.8 SPC II/6.5 Grendel/.458 SOCOM Grendel/.458 SOCOM

I bought my (2) 8" barrels in 2019 and they had some pretty healthy gas. Perhaps Bill has changed the port size since then and the extra coils are no longer needed. All I know is this significantly reduced the recoil and consistently locked back on an empty mag with 135 HAM'R Bonded while limp wristing the AR Pistol.

The 37 coil CS flatwire or the stainless roundwire are what I run in all of my 5.56, 6.8, 300H and .458 guns with standard buffers

200 rounds of 130gr hot-cor shipped yesterday. Thanks Bill and the team! Between ballistic performance and availability of ammo the Ham’r continues to shine!

Still waiting on my Hot Cores. I ordered mine in late November. When did you order yours? I’m just curious as to when to expect mine. They did send me some 135 FTX recently. But guess it doesn’t matter, as I’m still waiting on my Tactical Hunter, ordered in late November. Hopefully I’ll get the rifle and ammo around the same time. Can’t wait to try it out, along with my suppressor that’s still in Federal custody. Maybe it will all be here by deer season.

Actually, I ordered a magazine as well. Maybe it’s just the mag that shipped...

I’m poor lol I’ve spent around $2500 with WC in the last two weeks. Gotta ease up a bit.

A bunch of HAM'Rd hogs!!! The blond one weighed 310# and the hanging black ones in the 270s. Hogs on the trailer were all from one night with 4 hunters. All were shot with the Speer 130gr HAM'R HOT-COR except the big tooth guy that took a Hornady 135gr FTX to end his day.

I've studied the ballistics on both. The 135 HAM'R BONDED for tougher hide and barrier/vehicle penetration with hunting not to exceed 125 yards. The 135 FTX is also great and makes up for slightly less muzzle velocity with longer range out of the 8" due to the lower expansion velocity and could be reasonably used at 200 yards for smaller game. For self-defense you could stretch both 135's a bit further.

My gut is most will use the 8-inch with a suppressor, which is what I do. I think the 135 FTX could be best for home defense but I'm still waiting for Bill to load in Nickel cases for better reliability with the can. So for now I use the 135 HB-N.

Yes sir, thank you. Got my 11.3" barrel assembled and test fired this weekend. Suppressed or unsuppressed functioned well and will be a great compliment to my factory 18" Tactical Hunter.

Yes, your videos are a very welcome addition to this thread. However, I much prefer no music over your videos. I'm all about just the thwap & squeal for a soundtrack. happy3

I've got a couple of those laying around, one in my factory .308. amd another one hanging on the wall in the basement that I ordered when building my 300,, I didn't have enough gas to run that one, any way pm me if you need the 40 coil flat wire.

or, I've got a new sprinco orange which will handle that gas, its healthy!

Here is my 11.3” Ham’r. Compact truck gun and has been excellent on hogs. Selling my 300 BO and going to replace it with a 8” Ham’r to have an even smaller truck gun. I hope the 8” Ham’r works as well on hogs. [Linked Image]

Out of curiosity when did you place the backorder for the dies? I've had some on order since the 3rd of Feb and I noticed @Wilson Combat stated they had some inbound on Feb 18th. I'm still waiting for my order to be fulfilled. They probably didn't get enough units from RCBS in that shipment. frown

Anybody got some good starting data for Speer 125 TNT’s for the 11.3” barrel? Just got 1k brass and RCBS dies from WC and 1k Bullets from Midsouth. Will be using CFE BLK for my powder and CCI 450’s for my primers.
