Have any of yall gone down a hill with a full load on your back? If you haven't I'll tell what happens. You pick up speed, and if you can't brake you just continue to until you hit something or start to go back uphill.

I once was going 5 mph on a glazed road. I hit the breaks at the four way stop, and I just slid through the intersection and never slowed down, even though I was standing on the brakes.

The last thing we want is hurt someone, or ourselves for that matter. One bad day in a truck could also mean our job, or even our career

Then there's the whole speaking English comment, really? I guess none of the people that drove those 133 vehicles could read English...... come on man. The ignorance is unreal.

Lastly, the no big trucks in the city is about the most ridiculous thing, and again I'm being nice when I say that.... come on man your better then that.

Yeah the stupid stacked up like that pile up with the dumb comments.

I agree100%.

I hit black ice coming off dry pavement just like those people did......there is NOTHING you can do but hold on for the ride and hope to live to tell it.......the Bronco II I was driving rolled at least 5 times.....I sat there and watched each vehicle hit that black ice going 55+ miles an hour and they were helpless and crashing all over the place.......when you hit it your speed INCREASES and there is no way to slow down........those criticizing need to [censored] their pie holes and pray for the victims!

Not blaming anybody on accident but how many big rigs come and go to the metro plex day and night just to supply all goods needed for several million people on a daily basis. Without those big rigs people would go hungry. How many hamburger buns are used in a 24 period .

S A my English speaking comment was a real question, I see it all the time up here . You really think all those driver speak and read English ?
We have these types of accidents too often on I-80.
Can they read a warning sign ? Asking so inform me .
Come on up and stop in at any of our truck stops out side of town, I see and hear drivers struggling to order food in English, they talk on their phone in other languages, are they b bilingual, maybe but they sure don't seem to be.
We've been run off the road by foreign drivers that didn't heed the warning signs about lane closures or dangerous conditions. Not hard to figure out when they are wearing a turban.

I asked a question, are truck drivers required to be able to read English, it their driving test in English ? Because just like I stated, we have heard from other truck drivers that FedEx does not require English to drive for them.

Truck drivers are required to pass a written and driving test to get their cdl. I don’t remember it in Spanish but I could be wrong. What type of warning sign are you referring to? Caution, horrible pile up right around the corner?

This accident was ALL OVER the news yesterday people talking about it, i got texts emails and phone calls about it plus every news feed in texas had a bit or two or more on it. This morning I was passed by a tailgating 18-wheeler on the overpass highways down town SA doing probably about 10 miles an hour over the limit.

I know we didnt have any ice, but dang, you think after yesterday folks would be at least a little more cautious. I think driving a rig would be fun, but I do not envy the people who do it, im sure they have to put up with a lot of carp from other drivers and im sure they do their fare share of stupid stuff too.

They have computer driven trucks up and down I-45 almost every day already. Did y’all know that?

Wouldn’t flying cars be called airplanes? confused2 I don’t want one of those but I would take a jet pack!

They’re talking about all the investigations right now about this pile up. The agency that runs this express lane says 2 days ago they treated everywhere. I truly think it got missed. Unless they can show me gps tracking of the truck, WHILE dispensing the slurry, and can ONLY show gps while dispensing, I think it got missed. Too many stories of having a transition of perfectly dry to straight up black ice.

Everywhere else that had been treated showed signs of it. You could tell. The bridges that had enough precipitation to turn into ice were wet still by 11A.M.

Just sayin.

I bet 132 out of 133 vehicles would have slowed WAY down if they knew what was ahead of them. Ya always have to have one idiot when making predictions...

Black ice going downhill is the worst. A while back I came into work and the supervisor called me into the office. He asked me to stop at a wreck site of one of our drivers, and look for a picture of his son that the driver had wanted to find...... he told me the story behind the pic. The drivers son had died 6 months prior to the accident. To top it off our driver was now paralyzed from the neck down.... I guarantee you the driver didn't want to have an accident, but once you crest that hill the cake has already been baked, and now your just along for the ride.

At the end of the day it was a horrible design for that stretch. you have 4 seconds to be in the right place or you'll miss your turn and cars coming from every direction. IMO there is nothing short of a complete redesign that would have prevented this accident. It was a time bomb waiting to go off. Just my 2cents
