I’m familiar with Harris, are the others worth the cost?

Depends on what conditions you’ll use it in. I took a Harris to the Southern Alaskan coast last year and within 24 hours it was starting to rust. Obviously those are extreme conditions and not what we see here in Texas, but I have since gotten rid of all of them I had. For one, I prefer flush cups for sling attachments so a Harris won’t work in that set up. Stock has to have a rail on it. Second they are heavy and bulky compared to the lighter more expensive brands available. I told the Harris guys at SHOT last year (as if they gave a about my opinion) that until they can offer a stainless steel or aluminum product (heck carbon fiber would be nice also) that won’t rust in the weather and consider a flush cup model/rail attachment design they are behind the innovation curve. There are companies that offer Harris rail adaptors but you still are left with the cheap, bulky heavy materials of the Harris bipod. Just my .02.

What rusted? My Harris is 12 years old. It's made out of aluminum, except for a couple of screws being carbon steel.

I’m interested too. I skipped the Harris and went straight to Atlas, no complaints but I’m always looking for ways to drop weight...so while researching and preparing your findings BIL....please take weight into account

Jason, here are the pics. Mainly all of the screws, rivets, and nipple swivel stud inserts. Honestly the only one that really bothered me was the nipple swivel stud inserts as they contact part of the rifle. Everything else is trivial but there are better options available though spendy.

I forgot the knurled knob was steel. Mine stays free of rust, from moving the bipod around so much.

I've got an Atlas and do like it, for all the tricks it will do. But, just prone, wanting to be rock solid, I'll take my Harris.

However, I am seriously considering an ultralite bipod for rifles I carry and hunt with.

That rust would drive me crazy too. Have you looked at any of Alaska specific forums for information? I know it’s the coast part that’s relevant but that’s a big part of their hunting.

My Harris showed rust when kept under my truck bed cover and it has been oiled before

The BT10 V8s do everything I need.

I’m a fan of the AccuTac. I wanted an Atlas but have bad nerve damage on the end of my thumbs so I bought the AccuTac based on how the legs adjust. It’s been great. Very sturdy and strong and can take as much preload as I can give it.

Two different things buzz. Similar but not really

I like the Atlas CAL the best for the lack of Panning that are in the V8 and the PRS. I still run a Harris sometimes but the Atlas wider stance and rigidity is a big plus.

Atlas CAL is for sure worth the extra $ over a Harris. No pan to worry about, cant friction is easy to set and locks down rock solid. Wider footprint is much more stable.

Having a full length Arca rail is money. Move the bipod where you need it. The RRS lever clamps are the best in class choice to mount your Atlas to an arca rail. Even works with a pic rail or arca.



WRONG

I have the AccuTac and like it, very rigid for prone use. Much slower to deploy than a Harris and heavier. For a hunting gun I like a harris, for serious prone shooting better options exist.
