Subsea Construction Foreman. Was a commercial diver for a couple of decades. Now oversee oilfield construction projects in deeper water. Up to (down to) 10,000 feet. We had a member here that I haven’t talked to in awhile that did similar work. We went on a hunt, and he told me about it, but I don’t recall the particulars. Something to do with operating underwater robots, I believe. Yes. In water too deep for divers we use ROV's (remotely operated vehicles) to perform the work. Essentially a machine controlled from the surface via an umbilical that has thrusters to maneuver, cameras and sonar to see, and manipulator arms to perform tasks. Different tools can be added to the rov to perform what ever task is required.

I have some really cool ROV video of a huge alien looking sea creature that was not known to man from the Shell Perdido, recorded at the sea floor at 8,000 ft. Always enjoyed hanging out with the divers & Subsea group.

Building Automation Control Systems project engineering for 20+ and now in Global Engineering and Product Support for the same company According to my degree, that's what I should be doing. But somehow I fell into the dark side and ended up doing IT full time. Now I'm the CTO for a healthcare system.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.
