The most I ever needed was 15. Wild birds, or pen raised birds?

Carry mine in one similar to this: Loaded on right side, empty hulls go on left side. Been doing that for almost 30 years.

I had a fanny pack that I sewed shoulder straps. A lot of times it is too hot for a vest. Safety pinned on the game bag. I want the bag removable so I can check for fleas, etc.

The most I ever needed was 15. Why so many? I've been know to get a limit of birds in less than 6 shots.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I use a shell box holder that's used for trap or skeet shooting. I keep the box closed until the first 1 or 2 rows of shells has been used. It attaches to my belt. Game vest for empties.

GI issue web gear, the ammo pouches hold my shell, I also have the butt pack that holds the birds, the canteen for water. My set up is over 50 years old. Unlike a vest it is not hot, the suspenders take the weight off the belt. .

For the past seven years I have been using a Wing Works strap vest. Final Rise makes a nice one as well.

My carrier has two pockets on each side and a bird bag in the back (like those above). #9s go in the left pocket and #8s go in the right. Hulls go in the right.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Yes you can’t see the pockets. They are folded under the bird carrier part. Here’s one with me wearing it:
