I've been on medication for my BP for 6 or 7 years due to high BP and have had an intermittent problems with elevated BP since I was a teenager. The BP med my doc prescribed is Losartan and for the past 6 months or so my BP has been low (+/- 90/60) so I stopped taking it and have been off of it for about 4 months now but my BP has remained low even without the meds. I have a good BP cuff and check it throughout the day and my BP has consistently stayed low enough to no longer need medication.
One of the docs I see said that my low BP is the result of a combination of things; taking 4-6 grams of Omega-3 (fish oil) daily, weight loss, keto diet, intermittent fasting and daily walks.

Weight loss can make a huge difference for some people on blood pressure. Im not one of them. After dropping from 260 to 185 I weaned off my BP meds to see if it made a difference but my BP shot back up. For a lot of people its weight related though.

I was having some pretty serious high BP issues a few years ago, thought I was having a heart attack one night. Besides getting in shape, what really made a difference with me was (1) I quit using so much salt. (2) I take Omega-3 Fish Oil daily. It also helps with my joints.

Mine is slightly high even with my medication. I don't have any noticeable problems except old age.

I have recently gone from 267 pounds to 220 and my BP on medication has gone from 140/90 to 120/70.
IME when your weight goes down, all the other numbers go down.

That's great! I hate taking any kind of med and find it harder to keep mine down without it. I would suck at sticking to a keto diet so I may give this Omega 3 thing a try.

lots of doctors on here.......... I'm also guilty of thinking what's best for me BUT, I let the Doc make my decisions as far as my health goes. I have a good "cocktail" of meds I take everyday, numbers stay good, it works and I have no side effects. Why do people think they need to get off their meds? If you lose weight, this is great but check with your Doctor , let him decide if you can stop taking meds. Most of us on here are on Medicare and pay 0 for our scripts. splain

I am staying on my BP meds, even with the weight loss, until somebody with MD or DO after their last name tells me not to or tells me to take something different.

I’ve had high BP for 10 or so years and it’s due to genetics. I’m not fat and never have been. I work out regularly and eat okay, take a multivitamin every day. I’m 5’9” 200lbs w/ 12.5% body fat. I’ve tried going off meds but within 2 weeks it’s back up to ~170/105. Every person in my family (none really obese) have been on BP meds and have died of heart attacks. Even on Losartan 25/mg day, my BP is usually not lower than 130/80. For some, it doesn’t matter what you do or how much you weigh, it’s genetics.

It’s not just genetics that determine your BP. I had a real high pressure oil trading job, and the doc had me on some strong BP meds. Then, to make matters worse, the job stress brought on TMJ. Heck, I’m an old Marine, and we don’t get TMJ - But...yes we do. The doc then said I needed a lower stress job. I took a new job with a huge pay cut and little stress, and the TMJ went away and my BP dropped drastically.

W/out a doubt genetics isn't the only thing that determines if you have high BP but it is the 1 thing that you can't change. Diet, exercise, stress, drug/alcohol use, etc. can all be changed or controlled. Genetics can not.
