Trump admin preparing to seize private land for border wall: reportThe White House has begun preparations to seize private land so that construction of the border wall can continue.
A pair of officials within the Trump administration told NBC News that Jared Kushner will meet with military and administration officials to discuss next steps in acquiring the private land.
The officials also told the news network that counsel from the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice had already prepared letters of rights of entry to notify the landowners that government officials will be accessing their property to appraise the land, test the soil and conduct land surveys. https://thehill.com/homenews/admini...eize-private-land-for-border-wall-report

My dads land is on the Rio Grande he would be happy to sale. One of the first places we looked at when looking for our place was 700 acres on the river. I was head over heels for it, and it was $350 an acre lol... thank the lord my dad was wiser!

I'm sure the landowners will be compensated for their land. It can't be seized without compensation.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

A little different if they use Declaration of Taking Typically in eminent domain cases, the government agrees upon a price for the land before seizing it, but the Trump administration has yet to settle on a price.
However, the White House could also try to act under the Declaration of Taking Act in federal court in Texas, NBC reports.
The law would allow the administration to move through the process of acquiring the land more quickly, and the negotiations between the government and the landowners would take place after the land had been transferred to the government.

Land right on the river is inside the tick quarantine area, can’t bring deer out of there I believe.

Lots of eminent domain cases go the same way. Many road/utility etc projects are built and working before the final court cases are settled. Once the commissioner hearing is over and the money has been put up the govt entity can take possession and begin the project.

Or a nascar track. I saw a few lose their place for pennies while in HS. Ive been working in eminent domain for for 11 years and still never seen anyone loose their place for penies. Lots of people dont want to sell and lots of people think since the GOVT is "TAKING" it they should get more than its worth, but the scenario you describe i have personally never come across.

I hate eminent domain (especially the way it’s used today). Yes, the landowners will be compensated, but at or around market value, which I think sucks. There should be a provision for some percentage of above market value for the hassle of your land being seized. It’s theft for the “greater good” and, out of principle, I think it’s wrong.
On the other hand, I’m sure some landowners would be happy to sell some of it, if it keeps illegals out. But in general, out of principle, I hate eminent domain. And landowners should be compensated above market value (red heavy and I disagreed on this years ago, but I still believe that).
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.
