Hodgdon has always been one of my favorites. They seem to be a solidly lead company so this should be good for both Ramshot and Accurate. I'm surprised that Ramshot was on the market; less so with Accurate.
Have a good'n.

Wow. Honestly, this is concerning. When you have one company that controls ALL the major powder companies in the US, it would be detrimental in getting powder if something happened to that one company. And if you wanted to regulate the powder market, whether that would be controlling the products (i.e., government) or price fixing it, it would be easier to do. The main powder companies are IMR, Hodgdon, Alliant, Accurate, Winchester and Ramshot. The other outside US owned are Vihtavuori and Norma, and a few smaller one's. That would make them pretty close to a monopoly for the US market. People often worry about supply and demand. What if something happened to Hodgdon as a company? And a Dem is in the white house, do you think they would bail them out or help them? Again, this deal is concerning to me.

I'm with Chad on this. Really like Hodgdon powders but that approaching a monopoly and reduces competition. We consumers benefit from companies competing for our business.

I've always said, if you want to control the firearms in this country, start with controlling the powder and primers. If one regulation, government sanction, (or whatever) alters the company function and ability to operate, and that company is THE main powder supplier in the US, we now have a major problem. If you control the powder and the primers, you are essentially shutting down the fuel that feeds the firearms. That, is what I worry about.

I actually take a different view of it. You don't need a ton of different competitors to have a competitive market, you really only need 1 decent competitor...and overall, there are still quite a few competitors in this market - including a good number of smaller less known/popular brands (more so when considering foreign companies that compete)...the more the merrier, obviously, but this market isn't suddenly going to become noncompetitive due to these acquisitions. As far as price fixing, very few companies have the balls to price fix these days, esp. companies in heavily regulated areas - so that isn't a reasonable concern IMO. But what you do get when you have 1 clear market leader that owns a large portion of the market is a single force to be reckoned with when it comes to lobbying. Larger companies are almost always more effective at lobbying - primarily because of the amount of money they can spend. So, when I see Hodgdon buying up most of the popular competition - I see a more secure market in the future that will come from stronger and more well funded lobbying efforts.

Nothing against Hodgdon I like their powder, I just get leery when one company starts buying out other companies. I know they aren’t a monopoly but dang they are starting to look like the “m” word ha ha
Dang, speaking of Ramshot, tried to find Ramshot Magnum at my usual online suppliers and they are all out!

I haven't bought any of either one in a good while except for TAC and 1680. The best part of either manufacturer was that when those brands first showed up around here, you could buy any of the Accurate or Ramshot for considerably less than any of the older established powders. Now, they're all as expensive as the next one. Hopefully they won't pull a Remington and run a good product in the dirt

Hodgdon is a good company and I like their powder. That said I hate to see them buying up the competition and their market share. Some Hodgdon powders are already hard to impossible to find right now. The one who benefits from a competitive market is the consumer.

I could see the dems trying to make it very difficult to get powder. They have a history of trying to make it difficult for firearms related business to do their banking. This was an issue under the obummer admin with holder.
