Sold some stuff which gave me $2,400 to put into a new rifle. I don't have any rifles, aside from ARs, that the whole set up cost over about $1,000. I want to get a "nice" rifle just to have one. Most of my bases are covered, so I can't think of a specific need I have that I can't fill with what I have except a long range set up I guess. Just made me curious as to what you guys would buy with the money.

Some of the factory rifles I've been impressed with were the Bergara rifles. They are shooting very well. Another good option would be the Tikka CTR rifles. They will shoot a legit 1/2 moa with good ammo. Some of the Remington 5R heavy barrel rifles have done very well also. Stay away from the Christensen Rifles, IMO. Scope choice, up to you. You can't go wrong with a Nightforce.

What defines 'nice' for you? High luster, gorgeous wood? Or great action/trigger, killer chassis system? You mentioned a LR rifle, what is your definition of long range - 1000yds, mile? $2400 isn't a lot of money for a long-range rig if you also have to add in the glass. This is currently $950 retail and would perform nicely a long way out there: https://cameralandny.com/shop/brand...0137-158b-00163e90e196?variation=1995443So that leaves you ~$1400 for rifle and mount. Depending on how far you want to shoot, these are some likely candidates: Tikka CTR 24" 6.5 CM, $900-1000 Browning X-Bolt Max Long Range, ~$1000-1100 https://tsswarehouse.com/shop/brown...rel-stainless-finish-browning-035438282/https://tsswarehouse.com/shop/bg-x-...26-hb-bronze-atac-au-browning-035523227/Begara HMR, $850-1000 https://dahlonegaarmory.com/product/bergara-b14lm357-7mm-hmr-wilderness-tb

Well I would rather not say what I would look for. I was more curious as to what other people would spend it on than looking for recommendations for myself. I'm not necessarily looking for a long range rifle. I was just hoping by seeing what other people would do it would inspire some ideas for myself.

Since you clarified and are wondering what I would do with twenty four hundred bucks, I'll tell you. Here are a few things I might do:
Les bear 1911 M1a Mathews vxr loaded Go on a hunt Go on a guided fishing trip
Those are in no particular order and would just depend on my mood. I've got basically everything I need as well, but always like those guns, bows, and wouldn't mind going on a hunt. I probably wouldn't buy a long-range gun, simply because I never have. I never have because I don't have the time or space to give one the attention they deserve. So I decided I could bang away at 600 to a thousand yards with what I got every great once in awhile, which is basically what would happen if I had a dedicated long-range gun

Asking what rifle you would buy for $2400 is about as broad as asking" what truck would you buy for $60k" without any knowledge of what kind of rifles you currently own, what you do with said rifles, types of game you hunt, if you do hunt, etc. If you own rifles that currently cover pretty much all the bases in NA i would spend the $2400 elsewhere. If you are specifically wanting to spend it on a firearm, and a nice one that that, so many rifles come to mind that its impossible to recommend one to you based on what little info you gave us. The rifle i would have bought 5 years ago with $2400 is much different than the one i would buy today with $2400 because my needs and inventory have changed. May go and get you a good Browning O/U for $2400 and call it good
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I'm showing my age here, but personally I'd get the fellow's pre-64 Winchester Model 70 that he's had for sale/trade on the trader..they won't ever make another gun like that ever again...if it had been in .270 instead of 30-06 I'd have already gotten it from him. Earl

I’d buy a Remington, Weatherby, Tikka in 7-08. Zeiss, Leupold, S&B, Swaro. Tally lightweight or DNZ. Ammo or components.
Becuz 300 yards is long distance on a game animal & 500 is the limit even on vermin, for me. That and 90% of the shots I take on hair / hide are 160 yards or less.

Im craving either the Xbolt Hells Canyon or Weatherby Vanguard First Light edition in 6.5 creedmoor with a leupold vx5 (on sale August 5th I think at Basspro for $799). That would get you (taxes etc) to about $1950 - $2100 if bought new - then use the extra $500 to hide away for my next sneaky purchase...

For me there's only long distance hunting firearms; do not have any "range only" firearms. I care more about functionality rather than beauty.
Scope: Leupold Mark 5 HD 3.6-18x 44 -- $1392 Firearm: Tikka T3X (pick your caliber) -- $600 Base/Rings: -- $100
Apply the remaining $300 to hand loads.
I have a similar setup to what I list above but with a VX6 HD. It has repeatedly proven that it is dead nuts accurate to 1000 and kills everything it touches.

This isn’t going to be much help but for me, $2,400 would put me well on the way but is not enough. I would spend the whole $2400 on a Swarovski X5i. At 59 my eyes are not what they once were. In low light to my eyes, for what I’ve looked through, they are unparalleled. I’m not talking about just target acquisition at the end of legal light and dialing. I’m also including resolution of detail when assessing trophy animals. Then I would put it on an existing rifle till I could purchase a Sako 85 In 6.5x55 to put it on. It would be for trophy whitetail hunting but also a rifle that hopefully I could stretch out from time to time with little recoil and utilize the available selection of 6.5 projectiles. It would not only function well but also be easy on the eyes. Good luck spending your $2,400. You came to the right place for a multitude of ideas.

That's close to what I'm up to in my current build. Match Grade Machine 5.7X28 barrel on a TC Encore Pro Hunter with a 2.5X12.5 Trijicon Accupoint scope. Just waiting on the barrel right now.

Me personally I like a Chassis gun for a long range setup. Ruger Precision, Savage Stealth Evolution, Tikka T3 Tac A1. Something along those lines. I had a Tikka CTR and went back to a Ruger Precision which is what I prefer. For a scope I really like SWFA 5-20X50. Simple and just works. 6.5CM is what I use.

For $2,400 I'd buy an older Rem 700 BDL with a wood stock & have a custom rifle built. Spend about $600 of your budget on scope & mounts.
The North has double last names. The South has double first names.

$2,400 doesn't even tickle the taint of long range shooting, and it's not something you can dive off into half-cocked anyhow.
With no obvious convictions on which way I wanted to go, I'd be buying a heirloom piece. So Sako 85 in a short action caliber, with a schmedium quality hunting scope like a Meopta Meopro.
