In the market for a scope to put onto an Ar upper that I am going to purchase. Question is that I'll mostly be shooting targets at 2-300 yards with 77gr OTM(or whatever works best), with that said is this scope overkill? Here's the upper I intend to purchase. 18" Stainless steel BCM barrel. Thanks!

if you already own it, go ahead, but i dont think i would want a fixed 10x on an AR shooting at 200-300 yards. but it wouldnt be the worst thing for sure. depends on what you intend to be shooting.

I don’t think that would be bad for a mid distance target gun.

Mostly Paper or steel. Range will vary too, not going to be shooting long distance. Might use it for a hunting hogs, depending on how light it is.

I wouldn’t normally hunt with a fixed 10 power, though I did have one on my 220 Swift for a few years. And, I normally have my variable scope on 8 power for deer, pigs, and coyote, so that’s not too dissimilar, so 10 power will work, even if not ideal. I went into heavy brush yesterday after a badly wounded hog, and I cranked down my scope to 3 power. 10 power would not have been great in that instance.

Okay cool, I don't own it but was trying to see if that would be a good option.

I would think if hunting is even a possibility then I'd look for something with a variable magnification. The lower end is more helpful than I thought it was when I started shooting. I guess I have a bit overkill but unlike my 2.5-10x trijicon accupower on a similar setup. It is sort of my more accurate ar.

If you hog hunt with shots less than 100 yards you want variation that can be turned down to 3-4 power or you will have problems keeping the hog in your sight picture.......get a variable power.

I agree Marc, but he threw down a pretty small budget. He could throw on some 45° offset irons. They are also T.A.F.

The top two most important factors in shooting precisely at distance.

If hes shooting for groups, or wants to shoot 4" targets at 300, thats a whole different thing than shooting a big steel gong to make it go PING. ARs can be precision rifles, but OP has specifically said he wont be shooting this at long range. So i assumed (maybe incorrectly) thats hes not building a precision rifle. He also hasnt said if he intends to dial, or hold over. He may be intending on zeroing at 200 yards and never moving it. All of that matters.

Sorry about the delay boy's, I finally got the upper and after much thought and holding the rifle I might not like the 10x power afterall. Absolutely, theres always a trade off. That's correct, I'm more than likely going to dial it at 200 and keep it there. With that said and the comment above would 1-6 or 1-8 be better?

If the glass is equal go with the 1-8.

I personally would not be able to hold 10X on target without a solid rest.

I didn’t want to but I might also be adding the PRS stock instead of the Carbine tube with MFT stock, so I guess bipod as well?? She’s the one on bottom.
