that's pretty much the way I was for decades ... the last several vehicles (several for both my wife's (1 wife, several vehicles) and my commuters), the dealer (around here anyway) are cost comparable with the quick oil change places, and they do tire rotation plus a multi-point inspection each time with potential areas that might need to be addressed (wipers, cabin filter. brakes, etc.). Most other things that might need to be addressed, if they are close in price, will get my business as well. Of course these are much newer models that get quite a few miles daily/weekly before trading in ... which also keeps all the history in any carfax checks for when trading/selling outright. My truck (Dodge Cummins) is a different story but it falls outside the above ... and it goes to the local quick lube place for fluid changes, I keep all the filters and general other stuff done, if repairs are needed, I either do them or they go to a reputable local private repair shop that I have used for several decades that is better bang for the buck and I can trust. I keep my trucks a pretty long time and put quite a few miles before trading for more features or more space.

All four corners feature Bilstein gas shocks, and beefy stabilizer bars limit lateral roll during cornering, better enabling the gummy Goodyear Eagle F1-GS tires to achieve ultimate grip. The Ford's steering has a good feel and response, but didn't feel as precise as the Dodge's.
Because of the Lightning's forced induction and automatic transmission, we found ourselves having to stab the throttle early on corner entry to allow time for the drivetrain to downshift, build boost, and transfer output to the rear tires. Walton explains that "getting this timing just right is tricky; reacting too late results in a sluggish off-corner exit, but gas it too soon, and you'll be carrying too much speed at the apex." Much of this problem could be resolved if Ford would offer the truck with a manual transmission.

Checking comparable 1500s among ford, Chevy, dodge I’m not seeing a big difference.

yep, google before you buy. I have read a lot of articles about avoiding certain models. Maybe some Dodge fan boys will read this post. I want to know if those tow mirrors are telescoping and if they are then why do people need to drive with them fully extended when not towing?

Maybe for a professional driver, but for the run of the mills driver out on the street the Lightning is more forgiving and easier to drive. Just YouTube it, there are plenty of videos out there. Plus a few little minor bolt ons would get the Lightning's boost up and be just as fast if not faster than the Viper Truck.

I do agree with the sluggish corner exit though, one of the main gripes I had with my Lightning. You definitely don't want to floor it coming out of a curve if the boost kicks in when you're not expecting it, it can pretty dicey.

?? GM wants $33,000 for the basic single cab long bed work truck (same truck own now, mines 2015) ford is 30+. I got quoted $43,000 for a single cab 4x4 ford, 43 grand for a single cab??
I can get a dodge with extended cab, v8 and a lot more bells and whistles for about 30. But I'm being picky, I'm not going to break myself but I'm going to get what I want. may even be used low mileage so I can get 4x4. Not set on brand, but if you get to looking close at real prices, Dodge is a lot lower priced.
I am pre approved at Capital one and they have a search thing where you can look at dealer inventory and it figures up pricing based on your trade in, down payment, interest rate, etc. and gives you your monthly payment based on all that and how many months. I have been searching for about a week now and am working with 2 dealers trying to find me the right truck. I'm dead even on my truck now so even though I'm trading it in, about the only thing I'm getting is the tax break.

I agree there. The difference would come down to driver on any track, they are neck and neck in performance when tested. Pully swap on the Ford and they've got the SRT by a long shot, I would rather have the SRT just for the cool and collectible factor.

Thanks. good looking truck and good deal. I'm not sure about buying a v6 though. Need to get out and hit a few dealers in person but kinda hesitant right now. I am not positive I will qualify for the 0% but wont know until I try.

I’m not getting one and don’t need one but I’d take the deal if I was. With my trade I’d probably finance about 25ish. Can’t pay cash so why not pay zero interest, have really low payments, double up and have it paid early anyway?

Why does it matter to supposed grown men which brand of pickup another person chooses to buy?

Buy the brand & model you like best, maintain it properly,,, be happy...

No one else is gonna give you their money to help pay for it, or to repair it if something does go wrong.

Same except I'd rather have the Lightning for a collector. I know they made less of the Vipers, but I really really enjoyed my Lightning when I had it. The performance of the newer vehicles have completely surpassed it, the N/A Coyote Mustangs have around 100HP more than the S/C Lightning did, but those trucks were cool to me.

They fold up and down. IMO the 3rd gens had the best mirrors. They had a little idiot mirror in the upper outer corner of the mirror when folded down.

The 4th gen trucks have the long skinny idiot mirror. I kept mine up for a long time due to the fact that the idiot mirror was horizontal when up. With them folded down, that long skinny idiot mirror is vertical, making you go cross eyed if you weren't used to it. I finally folded mine down and it took close to 3 months to get used to them being down.

I have a ‘15 RAM 2500 Tradesman with the 6.4 Hemi and 4x4.
Got it two years ago with 32K miles.
Have 55K on it now with no problems.
I’ve driven Dodges since ‘97 including three Cummins.
Went with the hemis in 2008 and have no regrets, except for the rough ride but I intend to remedy that with rear airbags and better shocks.

I've owned them all, several copies of each, and they last no longer than any Chevy or Ford we've owned over a 20 yr period, being they're properly maintained. A total of 50+ pickups. This is in oilfield use through our small company fleet. We got tired of trying to figure out where the nuts, bolts, and screws that were laying in the floorboards of the few Dodge 1500's we owned so we finished early with the Dodge experiment.

My dad, who is 84 and still tough as nails, has 336k on his 2010 F150 4x4 crew. My last Tundra had major electronic problems and cold starts sensor issues repeatedly before it turned 75k, They're not near as bulletproof as the older ones, the so called mid sized variety they introduced first. It's not very hard to put 200k on Ford/Chevy/GMC if you take decent care of them with preventative maintenance.

An old joke in the car business was that if you sister worked in a whore house and your brother drove a Dodge you better get him out of the Dodge first.
