so much cheaper than GM and Ford? I really don't want a Dodge, but pricing is pushing me toward changing my mind. Do they fall apart early or something? never even known anyone with a Dodge I don't think.

I am a Ford guy but that being said I know several people with Dodges that have put 300,000 miles on them with no problems. I am referring to the gas engines We all know the dependability of the Cummins.

Gmc and Chevy are junk. Fords are good. They ride and drive like a luxury car. You have to take it easy on the thin aluminum beds.
Ram trucks are all bidness trucks. Run good, do the work, and last forever. IMHO.

I've known several people that have had recurring issues with Dodge and Chrysler products.
I've owned two in my life, one was pretty good the other had a lousy transmission - Chrysler even admitted they were lousy.

But here's the bottom line - resale value.
You take a hit when you sell one.

I bought a Dodge 1500 a couple of years ago. It was the first Dodge I had owned. I had Ford and Chevy before. I like it better than either of those. It rides good. Has plenty of power. Gets good fuel mileage and so far have had no problems. Probably the next pickup I buy will be another Dodge.

I like Ford the best because it is the first truck I had that has lasted a long time (340,000 mi). So I've stuck with Ford since and been happy. That said, my bro-in-law just had his Dodge give up the ghost. His Transmission went out, and they no longer make that transmission. If the parts were readily available and not overly expensive, He'd still be driving it. He had 318,000 miles on it.

I am on my 3rd Dodge 1500, and it's all I will own from now on. They are very good trucks (all half tons). And the 4x4 Off Road package is the best 4x4 out there. I put 208K on my 04 Ram 1500, and 180K on my Ram 1500 TRX 4x4, and now drive a 2019 Ram 1500 Lone Star with 4x4 Off Road package, oh and it's a supercharged 5.7L with 500+ HP, torque at the read wheels. And it's under factory warranty! Resell value on each one was great, and REALLY good on the TRX 4x4. So resell value is a non issue with a Dodge, if you take care of it.

Chevy 4x4 is a joke with right rear and front left spinning in the mud, and weak 5.3L. Ford, sorry, I wouldn't buy one if they were half the cost of a Dodge. (But the King Ranch F250's are nice)

I spoke to a guy the other day who just bought a fully loaded Limited 4x4 and was much more impressed with the Ram than his much more expensive GMC Denalli fully loaded. He agreed that the Ram was a better value for the money with more power and better truck options than the similar GMC.

Ford guy here so no help. I can say my son bought a Ram 1500 and the engine failed at 135K miles.

Holy shanizzles that is nice Chad! Unfortunately, I would burn through tires and get a lot of tickets with that much power.

I have not bought a new truck since 2001 (F-250 7.3 crew 4x4) and it's only got 140k on it so won't be buying anything for awhile. That said, if I was in the market I would consider a Dodge (threw up in my mouth just a little), Ford or Toyota. I've had 3 GM trucks/SUVs including a 2008 Escalade and had problems with all of them.

If you are only looking at Autotrader's Dodge prices then read the real fine print, make the call to a dealer. The price is not the price you get with most of the dealers. The last time I got in a phone campaign with a Dodge dealership I would have had to have bought a New Holland tractor in the past year, been a veteran, been a member of some farmer's organization, finance the truck, one or two other hoops to jump through for that price. I didn't fit any of that criteria. I think I could have financed it and immediately paid it off to beat that hoop, but decided against that. I was afraid of the pages of fine print.

I was about to buy one anyway in Greenville. I decided to keep the Dodge I have and buy a new Jeep instead for showing real estate.

Some folks have little confidence with anything Fiat gets involved in & further diluting by buying PSA parent company of Peugeot.
Fiat split Ram into a separate entity away from the Dodge name in 2009.

Some folks don't like the idea their money supports factories in Mx, and profits funnel back to a small undefined group of ' investors ' all of which are not subject to US financial laws & regulation scrutiny.

FCA US LLC is basically a legal front for a small group of foreign 'investors ' mostly of the same few families.

I had a 2500 w/ Cummins before my current F250. It was a great truck. Only thing bad I can say is that service network is awful for them, at least around here. There always seemed to be a 2 week wait to get it in and it always took them overnight before I could get it back.

I went back to Ford solely because the service departments are so much better.

Again, may just be my locality, but I tried several Ram dealerships in the area and all of them sucked.

I'm on my 4th dodge with a cummins and have put many miles on each of them. I tend to drive vehicles for quite a while, so I stick with what works for me. Any car/truck is going to have a few things here and there that go out, but I at least know what to expect and about when to expect it. I drive my trucks hard, but also take care of them. I'm a firm believer in good maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance (head studs in my 6.7).

When sold or traded, here's the mileage I had and any issues I encountered on each of the ones I've owned..

-1991.5 D250 cummins w/ Auto 2wd- sold at 297k miles. Dad rebuild the tranny (when he still owned it) at around 150k miles, and when we sold it, it was needing to be gone through again.
-1998.5 2500 24 valve w/ 5spd standard 2wd- traded at 298k miles. It had the notorious 53 block that cracked. I had a 120hp chip, 100hp injectors, Southbend Clutch, and was getting ready to put a bigger turbo before the block cracked. Loved that truck.
-2001.5 2500 24v w/ 6spd standard 2wd- Traded it at 140k miles because i kept getting stuck at my (now) wife's family land. Replaced the water pump at 120k miles and a front wheel bearing at 130k.
-2011 2500 6spd standard 4x4 lonestar - Currently has 192k miles on it and still running strong. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across country and back a few times. Deleted, Headstuds, Valair Quiet Dual disc clutch, Carli and Thuren suspension components. I replaced the ball joints and one of the front wheel bearings at 120k, the water pump bearing grenaded at 130k, and had a front main seal that was just barely leaking at 135k. Smoked the stock clutch at 50k miles when i put my programmer in it. Ran a SouthBend dual disc clutch for 100k miles which slowly generated a hot spot on one of the discs, so I had a Valair Quiet dual disc clutch put in it. It'll pull a dang house down, along with the neighbors.
