Not calling off the year has to do with Federal funding. There is a lot more to it then just saying school is canceled. A lot of districts if not all are prepping for a delayed start as well. There is a very strong possibility that school wont start on time in August.

Hearing of more and more teens and pre teens contracting covid 19 so I'm going to disagree about sending them back to school this year....not really that big of a deal unless you wanna make it a big deal the kids are able to get their work online and if you're worried about structure that should start at home anyway.

I totally agree. Your kids are not gonna be way smarter in 2 months. Teach them the outdoors, how to cook, work on cars, grow a veg garden, etc... Unhook their game console

I think this is really a district by district and even teacher by teacher thing in the schools. My kids have been doing online work for about 3 weeks. So far, they are getting maybe 2 hours of work a week total and my son has a couple of teachers that haven't assigned anything at all. Last week, the district sent the parents an email saying we heard the feedback that we were assigning too much work and we will be cutting back on the assignments. I thought to myself, how much more can you cut back; you aren't assigning anything now. I feel bad for next years math and science teachers and the 1st-5th grade teachers. They are going to get a bunch of kids that are 1/2 a year behind and will have to make up that knowledge along with next years classes.
Thanks, Rich

My youngest is a Senior this year. When the schools got closed they were at the end of district getting ready for playoffs (Soccer). Luckily he had college coaches that had been talking to him since last year. He had offers from multiple schools and has narrowed it down to his final two. He will be making his final decision next week. I do feel sorry for those Seniors that are missing out on the rest of their seasons and opportunities to get scholarships.

Is soccer considered a winter or spring sport? I only ask because of the NCAA granting seniors another year for spring sports.

My three are having the opposite experience. They sit down at the computers around 8 AM. the two youngest finish around 11AM, and the oldest sometimes does not get done until close to 1 or 2 PM. This is M-F, not just one day a week.

In high school the season starts first part of January. In college the season starts mid to late August.

Glad we homeschool, but all extracurricular's have been canceled (yes, you can do that with homeschool). With only my youngest now, will graduate HS on time this year, and we just found out yesterday has won a full 4-yr scholarship @ her 2nd pick (wasn't selected for WestPoint , her 1st pick) (yes, you can get those too when homeschooling, as my oldest also got full 4yr, and 2nd oldest got 1/2) 2 of mine have joined the Service, AFTER graduating college; 3rd, whose also already graduated college, is now prepping to sign, awaiting right time to get her target MOS. All homeschooled! All amazing individuals! Proud Papa here!!!!

Congrats Oldoak to you and your kids! It takes hard work and dedication from the kids and the parents to get full rides or even a partial.

Hey Sniper I'll tell you what. I love soccer when it's paying over $30K a year for my son's college tuition. There are other sports that I would ask "is that a real sport" before soccer.

Hey Sniper I'll tell you what. I love soccer when it's paying over $30K a year for my son's college tuition. Amen to that. Anyone should endure soccer just because of that fact! Like band. Band scholarships are easiest and most under utilized scholarships out there. 100% agree, but, man it’s a beating to watch.

Most soccer that is played in Texas is so poorly played it is boring. Good soccer players make a difference.

It's not always about scoring a bunch of goals or runs or whatever. There are some sports that a lot of scoring makes for a good game and others not so much. Take for instance a baseball game that ends 1-0 and the winning pitcher threw a perfect game or no hitter. I think that is boring and slow but others might think it was a great game because of what the pitcher did. I don't care for baseball, basketball, golf or tennis just to slow and boring to me. Except basketball and I just don't like it because it doesn't interest me. In soccer I like close low scoring games or even a couple of goal a piece. I like a 1-1 game that goes to a tie breaking shootout. That shootout is exciting to me and a ton of pressure for those players!
