The Governor just closed ALL schools (public, private, church, charter, etc.) through April 30, 2020 with a possible re-start date of May 4, 2020. As a superintendent, this has been a very difficult time for teachers and parents. I'm not wanting any arguments over this, just prayers that we will get through this healthy and hopefully our students in Texas recover quickly from the loss of seat time in a school building.

Doesn't the school year end within a month of that date? Should just close it down and go back in the fall. If they go back May 4, what good will 20 days of school to end the year do?

very doubtful they get to go back before summer. really sucks for the senior class of 2020!!!

Yes its got to really suck for them. Especially the athletes who were going for scholarships based on their senior years.

This too shall be extended.

I had this topic come up today with a few different folks.

I think they need to go back. Even if going back is a few weeks.

Many parents do not provide a structure in kids lives, other than going to and from school. They get put out to pasture in the summer.

Going without structure from March to August may be too much for some kids.

I am staying home with mine and doing what is needed to keep them on track. Some (many?) are not willing to keep them on track. I have bought books and we are doing games to keep their minds going.

Just my 2 cents......

They wont reopen in May for 3 weeks or so. They will basically be shut down till August.
Kiddos are already bored. They having airbnb corona block-parties. Scary.

As long as the Govt is still sending the school checks, they have no real incentive to reopen.

Our grandson is in the 1st grade, he said he is tired if staying at home, he wants to go back to school.

I doubt seniors will get a prom this year. That's going to suck for some kids.

Prom is dumb anyway.

All my kids are missing school. 8th, 5th, and 4th graders.

We are the type of family that eats dinner (and most meals) together at the table, usually let the kids (6&9) say prayers, both have prayed for the Coronavirus to end so they could go back to school and be with their friends and teachers.

My kids go to Catholic school and we are giving serious thought to continuing with home school. So much more freedom and with my work schedule; I hardly see them during the school year.

Just buy the booze for them and lock yourself in the bedroom. Forgot, prom is different now.

Luckily mine are 9th and 6th so they do the school on their own. Any younger it would be tough. My neighbors are outside literally all day long with their little kids. Dad in commercial real estate doesn't have much to do anymore.

No one is going back this year.
I would be very surprised if they start school next year on time.....
