Went to Jake & Dorothy's Cafe in Stephenville. I was like walking in to a cafe 50 years ago, chicken fried steak was outstanding and coconut meringue pie was very good also.

It’s been an icon there for as long as I remember. I’m glad they made it smoke free, you used to could cut the smoke with a knife.

Was up in Stephenville today visiting my Daughter for a scholarship banquet at Tarleton, ate at Montana restaurant and wish we would have gone to Jake and Dorthy’s instead! Probably will go next time or my favorite Purple Goat.

Montanas used to be the place to go. It has gone down hill since i graduated HS. Jake's has stayed the same. Still go at least once or twice every time I return. If you want a good steak and good atmosphere, go to Ruby's on the square. It is really good.

When i was in high school back in the early 90's, our Regional trackmeet was in Stephenville and our track coach would take us to Jake and Dorothy's for lunch AND dinner the whole time we were down there!haha Good times and good food!

We eat there 2 or 3 times a year. It is hit or miss like most places. We ate there about 6 months ago and I got one of the best chicken fry`s I have eaten in a while and went back a few weeks later and was disappointed . You can still get a hamburger on Tuesdays for $1 dollar. Mine and my wife`s families have been in the Stephenville/Erath county for over 100 years so Jake`s (as locals call it) has lots of memories for us.
The first time I went elk hunting in Colorado(1982), we camped by some older guys from Arizona who had played in a fastpitch tournament in Stephenville in the 70`s and they raved about Jake and Dorthy`s chicken fried steak.

I remember eating at Jake and Dorothy's back in the 70's. They had some really good waffle fries and onion rings to go with an excellent burger or CFS. Fond memories.
