When I retire I’m going to hang around the Academy gun counter for entertainment. If it’s not irate customers trying to buy a gun, it’s their FOS teenage salespeople explaining, for example, how the Mossberg .243 he’s showing will “take down a grizzly no problem”. I'll meet ya there, when that gets old we'll go watch the boat ramp in the afternoons, what a show that is. Haha yeah that can be our summertime deal.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

tried to buy a gun there Monday, the manager canceled the purchase after filling out the tablet info (it did take me a couple of tries, im not a tablet type of person) wtf? I have a ccl and wasn't loud or rude, my wife even agreed! the manager came across like an [censored], wouldn't tell me why it was canceled? banned for 30 days from purchasing a handgun from any academy. don't think I will be going back for anything from academy. any input? I went to the new Terrell Academy exactly one time and it will be the only time I go there. Per one of my wife's client's this is some newer concept Academy that only sells specific things - a much smaller selection than say the Mesquite store. Who knows if that's true but all departments did appear much smaller - reminded me of the store on NW Hwy that sucks as well.

things are getting bad that way in every business. you get these business management degree types that come in and want to do away with the skilled experienced personnel, and think they can train someone off the street to step in and take over for someone that's done something for most of their life
news flash young-uns! ! ! not everyone will be able to properly repair cars and trucks, properly put together a truckload of lumber into a nice house, correctly operate a quarter million dollar big yeller machine and not tear up property and the machine itself, do safe successful surgery on an person, etc. etc. we need to go back to the best and the brightest get the job, and the folks that can't scratch their *ss correctly get to do the hourly jobs and pull trash and sweep the parking lot, etc.

People are a line item expense for business today, rather than an investment, as they were in the past.

Took me 2 hours to buy one from them. Not a single customer there either. They don’t have a clue what’s going on yet. Was it the manager with a mullet or the old surfer looking guy? mr mullet. had an attitude when he walked up. but to his credit, he was working around some uninformed youngsters. still should have told me why he canceled the purchase? I think fred flintstone designed their tablet. from what yall have said makes me feel a little better about me not being the only issue there. thanks for the replies.

As long as corporations can blame (and replace) middle management for not doing a good job of training a revolving door of no-talent employees who will work for the lowest paycheck, then you'll continue to see this cycle.
You don't see it in small businesses because there is no detached group of upper management that don't even really know what the business does. I've said for years that our upper management doesn't know the difference between us modifying airplanes or running a donut shop - it's all revenue, costs, and profit to them. Profits are too low, costs are too high, and revenue is behind.

I am pretty sure the salary of the guy at the gun counter is comparatively similar to their prices. They can afford to sell a little cheaper because they buy in huge bulk and pay their people the bottom wage that might lure someone in. So they get a few more defects in merchandise and they also get incompetent workers behind the gun counter. They compensate for incompetence with a automated system designed to protect the company first and satisfy the customer never.
At this point I might rather pay brand new price for a lightly used gun, from a reputable guy on the forum than buy brand new from Academy. I only go to Academy for fishing tackle and cheap camping stuff, chairs and etc.

With age comes the realization that you never gauge your knowledge and skills by comparing yourself to those who know and can do less than you. Pot meet kettle. Never a problem with me but I've been using an iPad for years. Yes, I've often thought I should spend a lot less time here and more time visiting with those guys who I tend to see every time I visit the range.

I bought a gun from the academy in mesquite and had to do the tablet form 4473 . Was done in minutes . Didn’t find it being a pain at all. The one thing I don’t like about academy is their policy that if your put on a hold they still won’t surrender the gun after 3 days . The have to get a response before handing over the gun . Had to wait over a week once

Better than waiting 30 days and then being required to start over. That happened to me at Wal Mart.
Since then I have only purchased firearms from pawn shops, small gun stores, and individuals.
I will still buy ammo there because I can run in there and buy several different kinds of things. I don't like to spend my home time farting around in different stores.
I think the big outdoor chains, if they were smart, would have a small grocery section. Or maybe share space with a dollar store or something. If I could run in and grab a loaf of bread, eggs, and milk with a box of shells, Bass Pro in Garland would have gotten a lot more of my business.

Let's be honest guys, with all the information that's available on the internet, about all we need from the sales clerk before making a purchase is for them to hand us whatever we're buying for a final inspection. We should really have found all the answers we need well before we walk into the store.
So are we really looking for answers when we ask the clerk a question, or just trying to stroke our ego by finding an opportunity to show ourselves how much we know?

Do they wait for a "proceed" from NICS when you have your LTC?
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.
