Just started shooting with mine. haven't shot it without ear protection cuz of other shooters.

When you are shooting from a blind suppressed, do you still wear some type of ear protection

Nope. That's why I shoot suppressed, is so I don't need hearing protection. If you are hunting from a blind and the muzzle is outside anyway, it's even quieter.

It looks like I lost my 30 cal can this season. My son has claimed my 308 rifle and has told me that's the rifle he's shooting! So, I'll go back to my 223 can. I'll make up some hot 223 rounds with a good bullet for my hunting.

You can get so much more done shooting animals suppressed. Three times hog sounders have come closer to me. I presume the sonic crack echos off the trees behind them, so they cannot pinpoint me and they come closer. Whitetail does get shot suppressed and many times I've dropped one in a wheat field and 1 to 20 minutes later drop another one. See a coyote? Kill it and continue hunting. It is a beautiful thing.

No ear-pro with the can while hunting. I doubled two does in an oat field last year. One was 125 yards to my ENE, the other 200yds ESE, they were about 250 yards from each other. I shot the first, she fell over. The other never stopped feeding as I moved the rifle and dialed. I've doubled several other times and even tripled with my suppressed 6.8 while MLD doe hunting.

Must be nice hunting with a suppressor...

I've had several instances of shooting does and the other ones stand there looking around giving me a second shot. Love shooting suppressed........16.25" Creedmoor + YHM.

Is it technically "hearing safe"? I don't know. Does it make me feel like I'm doing permanent damage to my hearing? Absolutely not.

Newbie as well but I tested mine 2 weekends ago and it was greatness without plugs.

I don't know that it's hearing safe, but it doesn't bother me for a couple of shots. For extended range sessions, I still use plugs in conjunction.

Likewise. I always wear my ears when range shooting but can't stand to when hunting. The can keeps the ringing out of my head.

No hearing protection here either.

As for the echo behind them, i'm wondering if it's the thud of the bullet hitting the animal? More times than not, I've shot a pig in the center of the sounder and they seem to scatter away from that pig. Basically think of a rock into a pond, the ripples go away from it. I've seen that quite a bit, then they'll turn around and look like 'what the heck was that', allowing for a second shot on another one. Unfortunately, they are starting to pick up on the suppressor though and dont stick around long after the first shot anymore.

Shot a buck last weekend (MLD ranch, so legal this time of year) with a suppressor and the deer about 100 yards away looked up and went right back to feeding.

I’m close to deaf already, so I usually wear ear plugs even hunting suppressed. If I go to a public range I add ear muffs to the plugs. That’s probably overkill, but I can’t afford to lose what little hearing I have left.

WHAT? lol... I don't understand why the government requires "mufflers" on anything that makes noise (cars, trucks, lawn mowers, etc) but sees fit to charge us extra for the privilege.

They also make you wait a year for your muffler after you pay for the item and the tax.

No ear protection if the muffler is hanging off the end for me. It is glorious the sound it makes

Can't add much more than has already been said, but I won't hunt without a suppressor ever again.

I shot an Axis buck last July. There were about 20-30 Axis and whitetails in the clearing in front of me feeding when I shot. The ones closest to me scattered as did the ones near the buck I shot, but none of them left the clearing. After about 10 minutes they all went back to feeding and I shot the biggest Axis doe in the clearing. 90 minutes later we still had to blow the rest of them out of there to get out of the stand.

Other than dove hunting, I only hunt suppressed. If someone wants to hunt in the stand with me, they better be suppressed. I don't need hearing protection when I hunt suppressed. I have shot over deer 20 yards from the blind to shoot pigs 100 yards away and the deer just stand there and look at the dead pig.

I hunted with a supressed 300 wby mag in Colorado this year. Probably will never hunt without one again.
