I usually kill the engine while pumping but I've done it both ways without any issues.
Seems like if it was a big risk, you'd hear about it.

These guys made me a tad bit nervous. Took this pic while gassing up in New Hampshire in August. Rather than shut down the pumps to repair the support columns, they threw up some OSB board as a barrier to weld behind. And the guy sitting behind the trashcan was prepping the fix with an angle grinder. Throwing 3 feet of sparks across the concrete toward me. I decided to finish filling up at another station (I know I'm a Sally). OSHA approved!

I was on the phone with a fireman friend of mine getting gas at the gas station in Josephine tx. Some local yocal volunteer interrupts me and tells me it's dangerous to talk on my cell phone fire blah blah. My fireman buddy tells me to tell him to STFU and mind his own business. I just said thanks to the dude.

I have concluded that a lot of these unrealistic theories stem from idiots lying. I know it’s the source of a lot of oilfield policies. Someone lights up a cigarette, blows something up, and survives to tell them that it was a flashlight or cell phone that did it.

Try having more faith that God will keep you safe at the pump. [/quote]
Wow, just wow. God gave us a brain for a “reason.” Try using it once in a while.

What is the difference in my truck running VS the car pulling in on the other side of the pump ? Their engine is probably closer to the pump.
MO I was thinking the same thing. Ha. Thinking????? Deeper thought needed. Ha. My point was to control the things YOU can control. Can’t control the person rolling up, there is where the faith comes in.

Yeah I can control it. My kids shouldn't leave the house till they are 18 years old. They can live and learn and grow at home. The wife will care for them and teach them. They wont get sick, wont be exposed to the wiked ways of the world, wont be exposed to the "high risk" of any car spontaneously combusting at the gas station, no risk of auto accidents, being molested by teachers or health providers or priests, etc. etc. etc. a regular old bubble family, sounds like a plan...

Yeah, you'd think they'd have a sign on damn near each and every pump telling you not to do it.

I don't understand the process of filling your tank while the you are pumping gas. Do you start the pump and get back in your vehicle and close the door?

I turn my truck off and can’t remember the last time I used my cell phone while pumping gas. Not because I’m especially afraid of my cell phone causing a fire, I just don’t need to entertain myself during the five minutes I’m pumping gas. This right here. Does pizz me off seeing dummies smoke around the pumps.

Does pizz me off seeing dummies smoke around the pumps. You can pump 65 gallons in 5 minutes. Light passenger vehicle pump flow rate ranges up to about 50 litres (13 US gallons) per minute (the United States limits this to 10 US gallons (38 litres) per minute); pumps serving trucks and other large vehicles have a higher flow rate, up to 130 litres (34 US gallons) per minute in the UK, and airline refueling can ...

Found this on google. I'll paraphrase. Never considered carjacking.
Although this is not particularly hazardous in itself, it is illegal in most states, shown by a warning to shut off the engine while refueling, posted on the pump. Leaving a vehicle running when you are not in the driver's seat leaves you vulnerable to carjacking and car theft.Jun 26, 2018

My check engine light will stay until reset by a scanner on if you leave the car running when you take off the gas cap.
