It is not a blade (sorry) but it will help make blades. My idea of a "fast hammer". 4.5 pound head, that can be swung one handed or two handed, thus the handle that is 24" long, as opposed to 32" long you would typically find on a sledge. Head is 5" long, 2 1/4" wide. It is made from some kind of tool steel that was given to me by the manufacturing plant my dad retired from. Extremely fine sparks came from it, and after annealing, it was still too hard to drill through. I had to get violent with a Number 3 torch tip, on a Victor Journeyman to make the eye hole. It was brought up to near yellow hot, and quenched in used engine oil, in a 5 gallon steel bucket. It boiled that oil for more than a minute. Bois d' arc (osage orange) handle that has been sitting under roof, in open air for several years. I even ground out the wedge from a piece of flat bar. I've been wanting to make my own flathead axe for a long time. None of the commercial offerings suite me. This hammer ought to help.

You ever watch that old PBS show where the guy had a primitive blacksmith shop in the woods? No power in his shop, used bent trees to power his stuff. That guy made some amazing stuff. He handmade every tool he used.
You’re starting to remind me of him...

Oh, those guys are a breed apart! Very skilled, very patient.
I love electricity! I often think of how fast we can grind something into shape, and then think of the craftsmen of yesteryear that had files, and foot powered stones. That was work!

Lookin good
When I think of the folks of yesteryear... or many yesteryears ago like the ancient greeks/romans etc. things they made of stone without the use of modern tools and electronics is mindboggling.

That is sweet hammer! I like that osage handle Thank you! I love me some mesquite too! Very strong, and very pretty, but it doesn't grow in my area. Bois d' arc does, and it is the stoutest wood around, so that's what I harvest and use.

There’s a guy here orTFF selling fresh cut mesquite. That's BigA. I sent him a text this morning. Hopefully he comes back out to shoot, soon, and will fill his bed with mesquite before he leaves the house. I told him I'd unload it. He said "deal!"
