I ain't M16,(we are both probably grateful for that, ) but I looked up the 2 rounds you listed in my copy of Big Bore Rifles and Cartridges and here are the dimesions from the schematics of the 2.

50-70 Gov.
Case length=1.75, Diameter at mouth=.535, Diameter at base=.565, Rim Thickness=.065, Diameter of rim=.660.

50 Alaskan
Case length=2.10, Diameter at mouth=.536, Diameter at base=.548, Thickness of rim=.070, Diameter of rim=.610

Hope this helps some. M16 might have some better info.

Thanks CHC for the help. For the 50-70 the only difference in my book is the rim thickness. Mine has it at .07. It does list a load of a 450 grain lead bullet with 24.0 grains of IMR4198 for a velocity of 1300 fps. Sorry I didn't get to you sooner but I just got back home.

I thought I was a reloader until I saw M16's setup.
Now I feel like a kid with a claw hammer and a box of primers.

Seriously,I've been reloading right at 30 years .223,.243,30-06,44mag,45ACP,45 Auto Rim,.30 carbine.

Recently purchased an RCBS Chargemaster and it's the best single tool I've ever added to my setup.

What is a Chargemaster?

It's an electronic scale with an electric powered powder trickler slaved to it.
You just punch a charge weight into the keypad or pull one out of the memory and it dumps it into the pan.

It's made by RCBS.
In the past electronic scales of reasonable price had a bad reputation for inaccuracy and instability due to wind currents, flourecent lights and various other factors.
Mine has had none of these problems.
It has been stable, consistent and accurate for going on 2 years.
