I was hunting in your area a couple of years ago and saw a couple of big green birds something like the one you posted. But, I don't remember the blue head. Any idea what I saw?

Green Jay I have pictured above would be the only thing I have seen on my place that is a larger bright green colored bird. Smaller drab colored green birds would be a female or a juvenile Painted Bunting. Thanks y'all.

They are mostly city dwellers, but it's in the area, Austin thru San Antonio, to Laredo, Houston and back to Austin I am 85 miles straightline from downtown SA. I think those are only in Austin area, southeast side of Houston and then up around DFW according to this site:

From the Houston Chronicle. "In Texas, they are most common in towns and cities southeast of a line extending from Dallas to Austin, San Antonio, Laredo and including Houston," said Dan Brooks, curator of vertebrate zoology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. "Some of the most concentrated populations in our region are in Bellaire, communities along upper Galveston Bay, like League City, and some areas surrounding downtown," Brooks said. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/article/Monk-parakeets-are-a-fun-outdoor-surprise-6691473.php
