I was hunting in your area a couple of years ago and saw a couple of big green birds something like the one you posted. But, I don't remember the blue head. Any idea what I saw?

Green Jay I have pictured above would be the only thing I have seen on my place that is a larger bright green colored bird. Smaller drab colored green birds would be a female or a juvenile Painted Bunting.
Thanks y'all.

I believe your in the area that has monk parakeets. They are mostly city dwellers, but it's in the area, Austin thru San Antonio, to Laredo, Houston and back to Austin

I am 85 miles straightline from downtown SA. I think those are only in Austin area, southeast side of Houston and then up around DFW according to this site:

From the Houston Chronicle.
"In Texas, they are most common in towns and cities southeast of a line extending from Dallas to Austin, San Antonio, Laredo and including Houston," said Dan Brooks, curator of vertebrate zoology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. "Some of the most concentrated populations in our region are in Bellaire, communities along upper Galveston Bay, like League City, and some areas surrounding downtown," Brooks said.

Like I said I live 85 air miles from SA. I live about 135 air miles from Laredo, 125 miles from Austin, 160 miles from Houston and never seen one of those parakeets in my area of Goliad county I live in. I have lived in the central and south Texas area my whole life and never seen one of those parakeets. Been on 100's of farms and ranches in those areas and never seen one of those parakeets. They make exist in those cities but I would never know it since I have only been to 3 of them a handful of times in 60+ yrs. SA, I have been to more often and I have never seen that parakeet there but I was not looking for one either. If that parakeets exists in cities only then I will never see it. I can't speak for what the other gentleman saw either since I was not there when he saw a "green bird". I can only speak to those "green birds" I have seen on my land "close to where he hunted".

What rig are you running now STX? Assume your running a 70-200mm fast lens. Probably L series knowing you.

Majority of those pics were with a Canon 500mm 4.0 L series IS lens and about 10 yrs old now. The others were with Canon 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 L series IS lens and is about 15 yrs old now. All those pictures were from 7 yard to 18 yard range.
