Hey dude does that Beretta stomp your shoulder after about a 100 rounds? I had an Onyx 686 and it would blood blister my shoulder after 100 rounds. I sold it.

Citori 20ga, Beretta 391 Sporting 20ga, then the safe queen last and least, a Beretta 391 Gold Sporting 12ga. Only because I don't have a 28ga gun yet.

I don't buy that a 28ga patterns better than a 20ga. Sure with specific loads and chokes it could but out of the box with any random load that's not going to be the case. Who said that anyway?
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

I had a pro tell me that last weekend. He will shoot a 28 ga in a 20 ga compitition.

If you want to go apples with apples I'll say no way that is right but if you have a 28ga set up how you want it with a specific load and choke sure. Still you could optimize a 20ga to get the same result and better.
I think if you dug more with this "pro" I think it would come down to he likes his specific 28ga and has spend time patterning it with various chokes and loads and has found the perfect combo to do what he needs it to do.

This has been a very good thread. If anything it has allowed more people to think outside the box. The box of bigger gauge the more game, better pattern ect box.
I don't know who said a .28 patterns better. I do know this, the one I shot last dove season was spot on and I wouldn't change a thing with it. Best shotgun I thumped doves with, bar none.

Well I guess we'd have to get scientific with it. Pellet counts, %s and run it with various chokes and loads.
The in field results are pretty far from scientific. Also there is always the one were someone says "So and so shoots an X and everyone else shots a y and so and so outshoots everyone and therefor the X is better." Hell if we did results like that everyone would be shooting the same gun as me...but then sell it when they find out Garrett also uses the same gun.
I can't wait until teal season...all this crap we have talked about really translates to very little in the field.

Yessir I can't wait for Teal season myself. I some how get a feeling the Saturday BS discussion at the lodge after the hunt will get mighty intersting as the day goes on.

Here some interesting info on 28 ga I found on the net, I think the theme is the 28 gauge has a more uniform pattern with less deformation:
"The barrels are back-bored for softer recoil and more uniform patterns"
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3197/is_1_50/ai_n9488427/
“The 28 gauge patterns about as well and consistently as the 12 gauge”
http://www.gun-tests.com/issues/18_9/features/5357-1.html
“Baschieri & Pellagri often runs an advertisement with a testimonial from Michael MacIntosh commenting upon B&P's low pressure 28 gauge load. The big benefit of low pressures is that it is less likely to deform shot at the instant of ignition, hence present better, fuller patterns in the target area.”
http://www.gundogsonline.com/Article/Fueling-Your-Passion-for-the-28-Gauge-Page1.htm
“No one really understands the reason why the 28 gauge works as well as it does for such an otherwise diminutive cartridge. A typical load of 3/4 oz. of lead shot is really paltry compared to the 12 gauge and its standard 1 1/8 oz. load. The reason it performs so well is most likely related to the diameter of the shot column in conjunction with the diameter of the bore; but in ballistics, we can not directly observe what is truly going on during the firing sequence and so any claims made regarding this relationship should be considered non-canon. Nevertheless, the 28 gauge patterns very well and is deadly on both small game birds and clay pigeons."

Stevens double, Remington 870, Remington 11-48 all in 16 Gauge. If by chance I was going to show off I would use my S&W 1000 12 gauge, but its not my challange and totally unfair to the dove

Hey Guy,
Can you add "Half Ton Dodge" to you poll? I setup a squirrel and crow hunt with my father-in-law for his birthday yesterday down in Grandview. Corn as far as the eye can see. Cruising down a gravel country road a dove busted out right in front of the truck. Thud. I've hit other kinds of birds before, but never have seen a dove hit.

I have this friend that hit one with his truck, he took it home and thru it in his spaghetti sauce he was cooking that night. He said it was the best spaghetti sauce he ever had.
