Like anything--get as good as you can stand. Not everyone can buy the best in a class. With that said, different hunting requires different binos. Hunting in thick cover, hunting by stalking, glassing big fields. On the last type of hunting you need binos that are powerful and use every bit of light.

My thought is get the very best you can afford and learn how to really use them. I wouldn't argue with Jgraider's list above except I prefer 42mm objectives.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I'd be hard pressed to give up my Kahles 10x42, Zeiss Victory or Leica if I was going to cross the 1K mark

Some that are very impressive that haven't been mentioned are the nikon with image stabilization. They are pretty darn nice. I couldn't tell you the exact model I looked through but it's what tje AMU guys were using at a match.
Other ones that haven't been mentioned that are quality are German made Minox but they aren't all that common.

Not sure if their price points but the vortex viper hd and razor lines are pretty clear.
One thing to take in account is the weight. Another plus for swaro

For some uses, the stabilized binos can't be beat; they're heavy and expensive though.

I have a pair of Leica Geovid HD-B's. They have a range-finder built in. Unless these things break for some reason, I will never want for another pair of binoculars, forever. Sometimes baller status isn't cheap, but few things in life are better than a fine set of optics.
