My food plot has a couple of large craters from those 4 legged trenchers Only getting a couple of game cam pics of a medium size black boar usually 3-4 am. Last 2 weeks he's a no show for the camera? Well I thought what the heck I will get in the blind and see what happens? Get in about 5:15 pm just hoping a piggy would show up before dark. Around 6 the deer in the field spook to the west side and guess who enters the field from the east? Yepper its the black boar at 85 yards and he is slowly walking towards me Before I can get the gun out of the window a young brown sow with 9 real small piglets in tow come marching out The macho in me wants to shoot the boar, but the animal in me says shoot the sow and the little piggies might not make it So I popped her in the head, field dressed her and let her hang for skinning and packing this morning. Well a few of us had to much fun last night and old Stub was pretty dang rough this am Dang near finished skinning her and blue color starts appearing in the fat I am dehydrated tired can't get enough water in me now this So I am guessing the new poison Warfarin?? I am going to dump the girl regardless but wanted to see if they GW had an interest? Texted the Jack county game warden, called him got voice mail. Called Montague county GW he was great but said it should not be the warfarin for its only has a small partial release, he did not know what it is maybe some kind of trauma. Jack County GW who is also a fine young man said chunk it for the predators. Man I was looking forward to smoking my new little girlfriend but no way in hades was I going to take that chance, Yotes unfortunately y'all are welcome for the prepped meal. So what do you think the blue is from

Is anybody even using it yet for hogs? 3-6 weeks to train them to use the traps. If poison, then rat poison, still possibly warfarin.

Good question. I know the rules say that hogs must be 'trained' before using the new poison bait, but who's to say that everyone is following the instructions?
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

Well, that would mean that people have gotten the class and license to be able to buy the bait. It is a restricted item. Then dispersed it illegally.
You are right, who is to say that they are following the directions. Then again, instances of rat poisoned hogs have been discovered already in a couple of localities with the same blue tinge.

This worries me. For every hunter that's online and informed, there are 10X that amount that don't know about the poison or the blue tint.
I think I will leave a lot more laying and stop giving them to friends and family. My concern is how long it takes the tint to start working. For example(yeah, I know it's a pretty ridiculous example), how about a pig that just ate a 50# bag last night and I shot it this morning?

It isn't trauma. Maybe he ate some blue cupcake frosting. It turns your lips, tongue and teeth blue . . .

I've seen that before when The knife cuts close to the hair. That was my first thought as well. I saw the photos of the pig in Cali and that one for sure has blue fat.

Looks to me like the lower connective layers of fascia. It's part of the "silverskin" layer of tissue that envelopes the muscle. It allows the muscles to slide freely over one another. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

Appears that the knife cuts got into the hair follicles. Have seen that happen when skinning deer.

From the pictures I've seen the blue tint you're talking about is a very pronounced and noticeable blue. I'd be curious to know about your example, and to add to it. If the more they eat the bluer it'll get?

With the Warfarin poison info out it made me overly concerned and as they say; out of an abundance of caution I got scared and chunked it

I've seen that color after a trip to the snow cone stand.
Your hog may have had a thing for coconut flavored snow cones.

For sure, it's not from a Warfarin bait.
The amount of Warfarin in the bait is extremely low, 0.005% (.00005), and the hogs have to eat a large amount of it everyday over at least 5 days.
For humans, Warfarin has saved millions of lives by managing high blood pressure and preventing blood clots and strokes.
Hogs on the other hand have a very low tolerance for Warfarin. Warfarin gets into their bloodstream and kills them through internal hemorrhaging.
I'm not a medical doctor, but if you are already on the maximum dose of Warfarin then it wouldn't be prudent to drink the blood of several dead hogs everyday if they were killed with Warfarin. I don't think you could eat enough of the meat to even get a reading.
If you were to shoot a hog that had consumed the bait from another property, you would know it when you went to skin it out since the strong blue dye in the bait colors the insides.
