Haven't seen a fight in person... I have a few pics at night where two young bucks are sparring.

Question for this group. Not sure this is common up in Montague. I've only hunted this area for 3 yrs now. I have a pic of a 6 pt buck, he's pretty wide - probably close to 18" but doesn't have brow tines. Just little nubs. I saw him the past 2 years so I'm guessing he's probably 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 years old. Should I cull him if I see him or do you think he'll eventually grow those brows. I'm thinking he takes a dirt nap this year?

I'd be calling the game warden.

Doubt he will. Shoot him. We had a guy take a 6 pt that GW at Fischers thought teeth looked over 6 years. Big bodied deer. Haven't seen one since without brows though so it is rare.

Loscolinashunter you might be close to where I hunt. I have three or four six points roaming my area. One of them is 6 years plus and is about 18in. Wide with barely any brows. I know at least three of his off spring are in the Area because they have almost identical horns as their daddy.

I'm near Lake Nocona on the east side. And yes the one I will probably take is 4 y/o but I've seen a few younger bucks with no brows. He's been busy. Need to start cleaning this area up, poor genetics. I need to upload a pics of a yearling that has some messed up horns. One side is straight up and normal, the other side is pointing down, like its sagging. Thinking he may have injured himself earlier this year. But man he looks weird.

We have a trident. Tall spike on one side and a trident looking horn on the other. He is young though so maybe a kid can take him.

Well I'm in between montague and forestburg so that rules out that possibility. Must be a county wide thing.

I'm in tonight. They starting to move a little better. Would love to get the one in after with a bow. Have a small buck making scrapes on a cam last couple days

Hunted this evening off of FM 1630. Saw a couple of does. When it got too dark to see my sights, I got down to walk to my truck. I stopped to take a leak, and saw movement off to the side. A real nice 8 point came walking out not 30 yards away. He was directly downwind and didn't care. He had his mouth open like he'd been working hard. He almost had it all. Great height, really good mass, great symmetry, his mainbeams almost touched in the middle. But, not wide enough. Even so, he would have been my best ever. I hope he grows that one extra inch of width next year. While I was watching him, with my bow in one hand and my special purpose in the other, I see something white STREAKING across the ground. A little rat terrier flew by and chased the buck back to the creek. Not a house within a mile, so I don't know whose dog, but if I'd had a gun, I'd have killed it.

I'm no expert, but last week I saw a buck trotting across a field towards 2 does, and this buck tonight sure looked winded, and didn't give a dang about me peeing 30 yards upwind of him. I'd say that counts as rut activity.

I'm not surprised at all if the rut is going right now. Year after year at my place usually the last week of October through the first week of November is been good Rutting activity even if it's hot

We see rutting all the way through November. Last year they were still rutting into December as we had our biggest buck caught on cam at two feeders Dec 8 never to be seen again. And that was the only day he was caught on cam all season. Seems each year that happens between Thanksgiving and first week in Dec. I was lucky and took our most mature buck a few days after Christmas. He was with another good one and saw a smaller buck at the feeder and ran to him while his buddy hung back. Seem lockdown happens right before Thanksgiving each year.

I agree duckman, two years ago early December we had a big ten roll through for a few days when a good cold front came through. I saw him first light grunting all out around our pond dam. Didn't shot him because the wifey said she wanted a Crack at him.

So did the wifey get him? Last year it seemed the rut was pretty early, starting a week or two prior to Thanksgiving and rolling through turkey day. I'm hoping to see a few bucks in day light this year. I have a few that are at or around the feeders at dawn and dusk, they seem to be checking out the Does.

That looks EXACTLY like the buck I saw last night. That the terrier chased. How close are you to the Muenster Arch on FM 1630?
