just don't drop it in a muddy stock tank like I did with mine. I've had a few jams since that but I still have not fully broken it down since it got dunked. Need to take the trigger stuff apart and all that.
I need to do the same to my 870. I haven't disaassembled it since my little fiasco on the last weekend here on Barney Lake. If you saw the pictures, the mud made it all the way to the receiver. I just garden hosed it and let it dry and then I soaked it down with Rem Oil. I think when I tear it down I'm going to give the barrel the drill powered brush treatment. I will probably clean it this weekend. I've got four more that could use a good cleaning as well. I just figured by now I would have had one of those Saturdays when it rains all day and figured that would be a perfect day for gun cleaning.

Well no argument on the SBE being the top dog.
But on a budget the Baikal MP-153 is not a huge step down. Mine takes a heck of a beating. If you buy one you won't be disappointed.
If you can afford the SBE go for it.

I agree the Baikals are a great gun. I've shot one all season as well as my gf shooting one all season. The other one is a safe queen. But, that doesn't change the fact that sooner or later we will have SBEs or maybe even a Maxus.

What makes the SBE better than the Xtrema 2? Why does everyone like them more?

They are both great guns...what makes it better is a matter of opinion. I'd say that the basic break down and cleaning of a SBE is easier but for a gas gun I hear xtremas are pretty easy as well. Both are extreemly reliable but many might say the SBE is slightly more reliable since it's not gas. Gas guns tent to get fowled overtime and need to be cleaned more.
Other than that for me it all came down to feel. The Xtrema felt top heavy to me while the SBE felt more balanced and pointed extreemly well for me. Personally I think feel is one of the more important things and it's going to totally be a personal choice.
I'm guessing anyone that shot one or the other would fall in love with either. If they shot them side by side only that would be the only fair thing.

Been water fowling for 40 years, and I will never own an SBE. Great gun, but way over priced. I'll stick with my Baikal with the A-5 backup.

Hard to teach an old dog new tricks huh, lol.
Yeah I really don't car what other people shoot...I don't have to shoot their guns. Things like the feel, how much you will spend, features you want, etc are all pretty personal issues that only the person buying/using a gun can make. Of the personal issues I think price of a gun is probably the weakest reason to buy or not to buy a shotgun when you will be using it for what could be the rest of your life. Lots of people will buy thinking they will get another gun down the line because they just can't afford it.
The truth though is that anyone that is an adult and has a job probably can afford a one time purchase of a $1500 or 2k shotgun. If you add up all the costs related to hunting the cost of the gun you shoot in the long run is relatively small..next to gas and ammo.

I spend the spring, summer and fall at my place north of Devils Lake, North Dakota........ Moved there from Minn. after falling in love with the hunting and fishing there. Prime water fowl to say the least.
The Baikal has taken quite a few Snows off my front steps... lol
Could I afford a SBE?? Absolutely.

I finally did do a google search on the Vodka Gun just to see what you guys were talking about. It's a Remington 1100 clone??? I started to buy a gun at BPS on credit the other day and I talked myself out of it, mainly because I want to try and get some field time with some of the choices I have and this economy being shakey makes me a little nervous right now. I'm really glad I didn't do anything now because I went to work Thursday morning and they had a meeting with the employees and it wasn't a good one. The company that I work for is one of the most rock solid companies you could ever work for. The facility I work at has been around since 1981 and has never had a layoff or a shut down ever for any reason. We are letting go all our temps on the 24th and then in March they are laying off 200 employees temporarily. We are also going to shut down for a week in March as well.

Save up and get the gun you really want. The SBE III will be there for a lifetime if you want it to be. I had the same decision to make about 4 yrs ago and choose the cheaper gun and now I look back on it and wish I would have save a couple more months and speet 300 more for the gun I wanted and still want.

lakewaydr50,
On another forum, I foundout that Remington is dropping the SPR line, but EAA is picking it up. They are in the process of setting up a subsiderery company to distribute the Vodka guns. Here is the response to a question I had about Remington and the Vodka gun:
"Hopedale That is correct. EAA has confirmed that Remington is dropping the line. EAA is picking up the distribution again under a new company called USSG. I am sure their website will be updated soon."
I know that when EAA was distributing the guns, the price of the shotgun was cheaper.

Hopedale, that's good to know. I've got someone interested in buying our Mossy 500 waterfowl and the way things are going at work I may have to replace it with something lowbuck. I may even wind up buying another 870 even though I really want an autoloader.

Well, I'm not sure of the price, but when EAA had the gun it was way cheeper the Remington.
I paid $399.00 for mine at WalleyWorld, so I would expect the price to be same or less. I'm guessing less since you're not paying for Remington's name.
I do like the gun and have been pleased. Go ahead and wait it out and see what happens at work. I think you'll be please with it.
I looked at the Mossberg autos, but felt they were a little on the heavy side; not balanced.
Well, what ever you do, let us know.

The MP-153 is twice the gun of Mossberg. Never had a Mossberg I liked. Cheap....... When I got my MP153 it was EAA that imported them.

Mossbergs look and feel cheap...feel is more importnant that looks to me. But from the reports of all Mossberg owners they are pretty reliable. But if you are picking between that and the MP153/SPR453 then without a doubt I'd go with the Russian gun.

I've got an old Mossberg. It was bought by my parents and given to my grandpa as a gift and then handed down to me after my grandfather died. It was the first gun I used to hunt ducks with. My gf bought me a nova towards the end of my first season so that I could put the mossberg up to save it from getting all tore up. But, I have never had one problem with it and it has killed alot of animals.

This one has issues with picking up the next shell after it has been fired. It does fine if you just load shells into it and them eject them all. We bought it brand new this fall along with and an 870 Express. The Express hasn't missed a beat. The person I have interested in the Mossy is a friend of mine and he is aware of the situation. I think he's got plans on taking it to a gunsmith.

I have an I-12. Bought it about two years ago. Hunted dove, ducks, and geese with it. Great gun that I highly recommend. Got mine at BPS for $700 + some change. Got to love a gun that goes BANG and the target goes DEAD!!!

Another Turk......... I'd go with the Stoeger before this Weatherby/Turk. The Stoeger is one fine gun for the money, a Benelli in disguise.
