You also might check for a used SBE II - they come around every so often - a friend just bought one for $1050 that is in very good shape.

That would definately be more in my price range.

I got my Beretta Xtrema2 28" in Max4 w/o kick-off for $1080 brand new. Kick-off adds another ~$400 to the price.

I'll probably always shoot 3 inch rounds and may eventually have to back down to 2-3/4. I shot 3 inch #2 Remington Nitro's loaded at 1-3/8 ounce the last weekend of the season and I guess I damaged my right shoulder some how. It's still soar.

You can add Kick-off later if you need it for goose hunting. If you get a sore shoulder the Xtrema2 is a very soft shooting gun.

I'm starting to wonder if Ed gets a commission for every Berretta sold.

The way I look at it the original poster pretty much said he liked the SBEII the best but the price was the only hold up. When you are talking $500 or so more I really don't think that's enough to stop most people from getting the shotgun they really want. It would have been great if he liked another one more then he could have just gone with that one.

From all accounts that Winchester SX3 is an excellent shotgun. He didnt mention the extrema but it's also a great choice. I'm a big fan of Browning but not the Golds or Silvers.

Slightly off subject --BUT
Remington has an all new all synthetic pump gun. Camo optional with new choke system. Looks like they will be going for around $400.
Just what I need another smokepole

I have not heard about the Rem 887 although pumps are not really on my radar. Other than the 870 and the SPR guns (that are not even remingtons) I'm not a big fan of Remingtons.

I've got nothing against it but I'd never want one. It's not a waterfowling gun...way too pretty with that wood.

I've had a 870 wingmaster since I was in Jr. High
I got a new 1100 in High School
I inherited my Great Grandads model 11 - which by the way still works perfectly.
All these guns still function and perfectly. The 870 and 1100 still look great.
I see the day coming when we will be using steel shot or No-tox for all hunting etc.
I will need a new smoke pole. The new 877 would be just what I'm looking for and it will hande 3-1/2 shells.
just the ticket for puddle birds!

Have an A-5 and it's sweet.

May main weapon that gets used is the Baikal
MP153. That Russian gun takes a beating and
never misses a beat. Shoots 3 1/2" and all
other loads flawlessly. I've shot it for 3
years now with zero problems.

The MP153 is every bit as functional as the
SBE for 1/4 the money. Don't get me wrong,
the SBE is sweet, but I just can't justify
getting one when this Russian (I bought new
for $275 in a 3 gun deal) just keeps on going.

The new Stoeger 3" Auto is sweet to for the
money. Made by Benelli and has the same action.
My buddy has one and it's great, but he's only
had it 1 year. Time will tell.

No comission.

My posts were a reaction to 1. not wanting to pay $1500 (you can get an Xtrema2 for under $1000 if you get black w/o kick-off) and 2. saying he hurt his shoulder (gas guns usually shoot softer than inertial spring guns).

Under $500 and 3.5" I think there is only one choice. Get a vodka gun.

Ahh yes the vodka gun. Both myself and Garrett on here have owned those...we both shoot SBEIIs. I agree for the money it's a hell of a shotgun. I'd say it's the best value on the market and I'd be happy with one all day long.

However it's not in the same ballpark as the SBEII or Extrema nor would anyone rightly expect it to be.

The commission stuff was a joke man.

As far as recoil goes yes the extrema will have less felt recoil...but is it really all that noticable with a 3.5" shell? I'm guessing if you did a side by side you could tell but if you shot one one week and one the other I bet you would not be able to notice much of a difference.

The fit of the gun is going to be an important element in felt recoil as well as the weight of the gun. I think the extrema is heavier so that alone would make felt recoil softer as well.

IMO if felt recoil really is the main issue the shells you shoot will play a bigger factor than the semi auto you shoot.

I was talking to one of my duck hunting buddies at work and we were talking about shotguns. I found out today that he just recently purchased an Xtrema2 and I have arranged to shoot it at the local sporting clays range soon.

if you shoot that Xtrema2 you will fall in love with it...I almost stole Eds after he let me shoot it

The vodka gun...I have never had an issue with that gun until I hunted in a muddy mess last year in lubbock. At the end the day it was starting to hang up. Then the next morning it was -10 with the wind chill and it would not cycle at all...other than that one trip it has been a perfect gun.

SBE...I always thought these were cool, just not worth the price tag when compared to the vodka, then i got one...and I swear by it, it has been my go to since the day i brought it home. This whole year I have been hard on it, throwing it around, its been covered in mud, never cleaned once. I think I have about 700 rounds through that thing since I got it and it still works like a champ, like I said, never cleaned once and not a jam once. At this point I am kinda curious how long I can go without cleaning it before is starts to act up

just don't drop it in a muddy stock tank like I did with mine. I've had a few jams since that but I still have not fully broken it down since it got dunked. Need to take the trigger stuff apart and all that.

That's like saying since you paid 1 million dollars for a tank so you should not go to war with it.

A shotgun for me is a tool...it's used for killing stuff...I'm not going to baby it just because it cost more than an 870. Don't think that means I'm going to be hard on it for the sake of testing the limits. I take care of my shotgun and clean it from time to time as needed...it doesnt need it after most hunts. But after a dip in the tank it does. I didnt mean to place my $1500 shotgun two feet down in a muddy tank I assure you.

I'm a waterfowler not some fancy game [censored] hunter...that only hunts with it's between 60-75 degrees and sunny. I hunt in nasty stuff...the nastier the better. Any duck hunter will be in the mud, rain, snow, etc from time to time. we all love those hunts when we are high and dry and sitting in a blind with a heater but those are few and far between for most.

sorry I was talking to gr, but still, you don't have to baby it to clean it every once in a while.
