So not to pour fuel on the fire, but how do those of us who are actually trying to use our 5x while waiting for the repeatedly delayed release of .234 get our sunshade? Do we need to email Sachal, or do something else? I just used the contact form on there website.

While all y'all are sitting around whining.
I'm out killing pigs with my 5-18. My son is using his 3-12, And not shooting the ranchers cows, donkeys, and llamas.
And I have a video of my hog kill.
Seriously, some of you need to quit whining and get out in the field and use your scope.
These things really do work for killing game, the 3x or 5x is plenty for hitting hogs without the digital zoom. By the time you zoom in you don't have any field of view.

I've had no problem with mine performance wise, it's just that after sighting it in on my recluse, the reticle is about a 1/2" above the bottom of the screen after sight in. Not to good for hunting, but I get by. On my faster shooting rifles, it's close to the center and have no problems shooting with it up to 2x.I plan on mounting it on a .260 to do some longer range shooting with it during the daytime too, so the zoom feature will be needed.

These things really do work for killing game, the 3x or 5x is plenty for hitting hogs without the digital zoom. By the time you zoom in you don't have any field of view. I remounted and shimmed mine last night and laser sighted it at 100yds. will go out today and do a fine tune and it will be out tonight with some clients, tomorrow night and probably mon and or tue night. I am not whining but when a csr (which is what I view sachal as) comes on here and offers to let some of us test and says a release is imminent I would expect him to at least answer emails and or keep us informed of the release. yes the scope works on 1x but in my case my reticle is off center enough to bother me even though it is sighted. I bought mine after reading a lot of pros and cons on here but with the expectation (per sachal) that the problems would be fixed, I also was ready to buy another 4-5 3-12 scopes to have them for my clients that do not have nv, so far I am 50/50 on buying anything else from atn due to the lack of correspondence and what I perceive as damage control from sachal when we are told one thing and something else happens. just my opinion on all this mess.

OK, So the weather has finally turned from Suck to Woot up here in the Show-Me state, and I was able to take my X-Sight out to my range this past Wednesday.
I'll try to keep the information as succinct as I can.
Range report:
- Firmware is still .228 until they release the new version. - Target is roughtly 'man size', at about 4.5 ft tall. - I was off the board at 50 yards, before zero. - Moved in to 25 yards, finally zeroed at X = 94 left, Y = 64 down - pretty far off center. - Closest I can zoom is about 3.0x - 4.0x digital zoom, before reticle goes off the screen
Now, I should mention this scope is used in an unusual setup. - 1943 Inland M1 Carbine - Choate 5-Position Collapsible Pistol-grip Synthetic Stock - Ultimak M6-B Scout Rail - TufForce MT-1R7E14 1" See-Through Riser Extension (Approx 9" Extension over the rifle's action, Thumbscrew QD) - Backup Bushnell TRS-25 Red Dot (Riser See-Through, Lever QD mod)
This is NOT a long range precision firearm. Intended use is a 100-200 yard defense/varmint carbine. I do not know how much the mounting riser/extension I'm using is sending the scope off-zero. It could be quite a bit, there's no way to really know without testing. There's also the possibility of quite a bit of flex, since this is a highly cantilevered setup.
I intend to test the extension's effect on Zero by mounting my TRS-25 on the scout rail, zero, then mounting it on the end of the 9" extension, to see how far off it is - and what direction. I will also test repeat-ability when mounting and dismounting the extension. It's a fairly inexpensive mount - so I don't expect miracles here. It's the only mount I can find that extends far enough rearward to mount the X-sight, without removing the rear iron sight from the rifle... something I'm 100% unwilling to do. I also want to be able to easily remove the X-sight when unneeded, since it's a heavy beast.
I haven't decided where I want to shim. I could shim the scope mount itself, the mount on the extension, or the extension to the scout rail. The picatinny rail is hardest to shim, but would provide the most 'shift' to center, if done properly.
Anyway, that's where I'm at for now. Aside from the pretty far X/Y values, the scope itself functioned excellently in the field so far. Great clarity for my purposes.

I can report that my first set of batteries, energizers, just went out on me last night. had the batteries in the scope for over a month and have used it off and on, recorded some short vids and all is good from that aspect.

I can report similar. Out shooting on wednesday is when my first original set of Duracells died (just plain alkalines, not lithiums). I was pretty impressed how long a single set of normal alkalines lasted, given how much fiddling I did with it. I haven't used wifi yet, so that's probably why. I replaced them with a set of Energizer Lithiums, so we'll see how those go.

The website says it has it. The box says it has it. The NEW manual says it has it. It must have it, right?

All,
Got a bad news...
Sorry but got a little bad news.
Unfortunately the sunshades will only work with current production X-Sight 5-18 units. If you really see the need to the sun shade, let me know and I will arrange an exchange for you. Please be advised that current lead times for X-Sight 5-18x units can be 30 to 45 days, as the new batch is being thoroughly tested. If you are interested in proceeding with this exchange.
On behalf of ATN I apologize for the miscommunication regarding the sunshade accessory. If you have any further questions, please let me know. Thank you!

And I was waiting patiently to ask for one because I knew there would be a big demand.
Sachal, Is there a threading issue? I as well have a early delivered scope (Dec).

Sachal: me too, please! Mine has the black buttons if that means anything. I have fabricated a sunshade based upon the useful post by a fellow member (Oldsnipr rocks!), because mine is virtually unusable in bright sunlight without shading. Fortunately, a lot of my hunting is at night so it is less of a problem in the dark.

All, There is no difference between the black or the red buttons or in the new batch. The only difference is the lens housing is threaded. This allows you to screw the sun shade on to the scope.

I'm glad my work around sun shade is working for you TomH! One thing I found is that you can use 2 of those rubber sleeves (small end inside the large end) to make the shade longer/deeper if you need it. They are very light so weight isn't an issue. I too have an early model 5X-18 (Dec) so I will have to decide if I want to be without a scope for a month or more to get a new unit.
I would hope that part of the testing on the new units will be checking the mount, so those with less than straight mounts should maybe take advantage of the exchange.

Sachal, how do we go about this? Are you going to issue us an rma, or is atn going to send out a scope that is compatible with shade along with a shipping label to return old scope??
