That's interesting. On top of seeing a picture of one with white buttons, I'd also like to know who you spoke to. It might help keep things honest.

Do you own an X-sight and what are your experiences with it? What customers tell you isn't what this thread is based upon.

Also Shooter123 was referring to pure night vision performance of the X-sight and there are other units which perform better at night in that they see further with the same amount of IR. When you state its presently the best night vision going is that within a certain range?

I would believe it to be the best option, 150 yards and in, IF they can solve the flickering.

That was another difference I noticed with my "black buttons" 3x - NO flickering in night mode at all. Evidence is starting to point to some (perhaps subtle and important) hardware changes. Yikes.

If there was a hardware change on the scope would be a rev number to help identify in case of a recall.

Oh...those are like mine were: black buttons, white text. The ATN website depicts current models with red buttons/ white text.

This was delivered to me yesterday, and already had the latest firmware installed.

I'm pretty happy with the image quality from my 5X. This is obviously a screen capture of a shot displayed on my phone via the obsidian app. The furthest tree is between 80 and 90 yards out and is being illuminated by an IR converted T20. I have found that I get the best images when the light is mounted out to the end of the hand guard in an offset light mount. I think I was getting to much glare off of the top of the rail and suppressor when the illuminator was on the side of the sight.

I do have a question though. Is there any was to view images captured on the micro SD through the scope viewfinder? I have a selection for it in the menu but it does nothing when I highlight and select it.

Optics Planet, having formerly been presenting a 1-3 month shipping availability for the 3x X-Sight currently claims to have 1 in stock. Weird.

UPDATE: I am on a live chat with their customer service. He claims they got a small shipment of the 3x from ATN this week. I will update with any other details he can offer.

UPDATE 2: Well that was it. Still, it's promising. For those who missed out on the previously closed thread, here is a picture of a 3x equipped with manual focus. They are coming (maybe sooner than later?).

Guy I talked to yesterday from ATN said they were probably 5-6 weeks out on the new 3x model with the manual focus and sunshade

Well, that means some poor sod is going to wind up with a return on his hands. Ah well.

OK, HuntHog; I apologize for misleading you. They are black buttons with white markings on them. Didn't mean to confuse the issue.

So, now that the color of the buttons issue is resolved, how does a person go about actually taking a picture or video with his/her new ATN-Sight? Please give me a step-by-step process. I've got the latest firmware installed; I've got the resolution I want set up in the still shot and video mode. How do I take a picture or video now that I've got it all set up?

I've got that manual on line, cyper, and have read it, but it doesn't tell me how to actually take a picture or a video? At least, as far as I can tell! What am I missing here? The Sight is turned on; the camera mode is selected; I have an image in the viewfinder that I would like to capture; what do I do?

Example: Tap LEFT button to capture a photo.

Am I missing something the manual says how to do it. It even shows a picture.

OK, my bad! I read that and thought it meant that pressing those buttons would put the scope into either photo or video mode. I was looking for step to do to actually make it take a pic or video. Thanks to both of you!

No worries bud we are here to help -- how are you liking the new toy? I will head out Friday for a weekend hunt I will put it through its paces and report back.

I'm liking it just fine! My fat little fingers cause a few problems in navigating the "button board" while looking through the scope, but that's not a scope issue, that's manual dexterity and lack of familiarity issues! I can see where trying to do much keyboarding with gloves on will be pretty much next to impossible for me. I also find that the adjustment ring for the focus is really hard to turn when sitting behind the scope and firearm. There's not enough room under the scope to wrap fingers around it, so the mechanical advantage provided to my beat up old hands is very small. Possibly it will loosen up over time. But I've found nothing that makes me wish I hadn't bought this scope, and the features and functions it provides, at the price point at which it provides them, is amazing.

Good luck on your hunt this weekend. The weather for us here in CenTex is pretty snotty for the weekend, so I hope you'll be able to avoid it. And, hunting in bad weather is a lot more fun than sitting in an office in good weather.

Took my ATN X 5-18x to the range yesterday afternoon/night. Shot about 50 rounds with it mounted on my DPMS LR .308. Also mounted was the illuminator that it came with and a Crimson Trace IR laser spot (with filter). Shot it in the day mode and night mode. X/Y were both about -50 at 100 yards. Reticle usable at 2.5x and off the screen at 3.0x. V.2.0 installed. Illuminator good out to 100 yards. At 200 yards there seems to be a gain issue where it closed down due to foreground illumination. If I hand covered the illuminator for a bit then uncovered it, I could see the target fine at 200 yds till the gain closed down again.
Now for the issue. Picture froze on 4 shots at the shot. At about half the shots the picture went out completely. The only way to recover the image was to reset by taking the battery cover off/on. This issue seems to be recoil related. I was shooting .308, 150 grain Monarch.
I must say I like the scope other than that. I have had all the issues previously reported too, and I think I can work around those, but the scope going out on the shot is unacceptable. I've emailed the dealer and will be in touch with ATN this afternoon. I would also like to say what a great combination I think the ATN x and the Crimson Trace are, even though it duplicates the targeting solution. I'm new a this but like the ATN a lot.

on the shot freeze or screen blank out :

1. try a different battery brand/type ( I prefer Duracell Rechargeables AA )
2. screw the cap on a little tighter
3. clean contact points with alcohol
4. make sure scope and rail base are not loose, seen this happen after a few shots on Ruger SR 762 .308 and 5.56
put low strength loc-tite on screws (base to scope) then hand tighten

another possibility is your batteries are running low, check top right corner for blinking Battery icon
