Last Fri night was skunk night, for sure. Farm roads all over Texas were covered with skunk carcasses on Sat. Folks on other forums are saying it's all due to climate change. Better get used to it.

Since I've taken to trapping coons this way, is there a way to have a happy ending when a skunk gets caught stealing corn? I have no intention of getting zapped and prefer not to nuke the site from orbit.

I just shoot them and let the buzzards clean it up. If I do that in the morning I can usually get what is left of the skunk out the next day. I spine shot 2 of the skunks from behind (at a safe upwind distance) and they did not spray. Then finished them off with a head shot.

I know skunks are a nuisance and can carry diseases, but having grown up with a neighbor who was part of an animal rescue network and had a de-scented pet skunk he raised from a pup, I hate seeing skunk pancakes when tooling down the road. That skunk was pretty cool.

He was very awesome. With an awesome name - Lucky Skunk.

Imagine a cross between a cat and a dog.....a nocturnal cat and dog.....house broken, friendly, well mannered, affectionate, inquisitive.

i do a lot of trapping, late jan thru march is horrible for my traps. i typically dont run snares or leg hold because of catching skunks. i run a lot of conibear that time of year due to the 'dead' factor of those traps. sure, they smell, but it isn't as bad as a pissed off skunk in a leg hold or one that's hip snared…i am going to try and skin one out this year, i think it would make an awesome gag, to tie one up with fishing line in a deer blind….
