You would be amazed at the wildlife populations and quality that can be obtained when proper management practices are combined with predator control. You would also be amazed at how much more wildlife you would be able to sit back on your porch and enjoy watching. As bar-d mentioned, even the little cute fox can reek havoc on bird, turkey and yes even deer populations during fawning season. Bobcats are no better. In some cases even worse, as an adult male can take down larger deer.

Case in point. Back in the eighties here on our ranch quail, turkey, rabbits, deer and so forth were thriving and had healthy populations. Toward the late nineties, my uncle ran the place and slacked off on the predator control. For a long period if you were to depend on wildlife to survive you would starve before you even saw any. We took over and went all out on predator control and now have good number of quail, turkey and higher survivability rates in our fawn crops. By the way, we have a bluff here that granddaddy always called "bobcat bluff". He told the story of him and his brothers sitting across the draw in the evening and shooting several bobcats a piece on a regular basis. Guess what, we still have bobcats.

IMHO, you can not be a "management minded" hunter and say you give out passes to fox and bobcats. For every fox, bobcat, and yote you see, there are probably five you don't. But everyone you take out gives the wildlife in that area a better chance of survival. In other words, I don't believe man will ever kill out all the predators but he sure can make them manageable.

Haven't seen many fox around so in that environment at the lake I would sit and watch them. I have plenty of entertainment here at my house with new neighbors thinking they can let cats run free1 between live trap (they get ride to meet Wiley Coyote) and the Benjermin pellet rifle they will learn not to mark the motorcycles in garage!
