Having been a property manager on dozens of leases in the last 20 years I have seen the pros and cons of children on hunting leases (especially unsupervised kids as mentioned above)
The pros far outweigh the cons. So much so, that when I have a landowner express the desire to have at "no kids policy" on their land, If I can not get them to change their mind, I will not take the job..period.

We manage 55 different properties across the state and we are thrilled to report that 127 kids shot their first deer this year on our properties.. awesome.

Yes, property owners still have plenty of rights, what we are seeing today is that many of them do not know what that want other than some way to pay for either the mortgage or tax burden.

When we consult with new property owners (unless it is an estate) we advise them to use the property themselves for a season or two prior to leasing it out. This seems to help them get their ideas in order, before treating a group of hunters like a yo-yo, with a some crazy wildlife management plan.

Now I know most of us don't make the rules on leases but why in the freakin world would a lease not allow kids?

Just like why some apartments don’t allow kids, why some resorts don’t allow kids, some people just don’t like kids and/or want to be around them. It's a free country, I do not have a problem with it.

My daughter was followin my through the woods on a small lease I had when she was five years old.Fast forward. She's sixteen now.Last year me and a good friend leased a 500 acre plot of timber co. land. The hunters allowed are anyone in our two families.Talk about a great year.We had more fun than any year I can remember and kids were definately a big part of it.I went on plenty of adult hunts last year but none were as satisfying as being with my family.I would not want my daughter with me on a lease if I was hunting with people I didn't know very well. But I would hold no grudge against the group who played harder than they hunted. It's their money and if it's about gettin away from the wife and kids then I kind of feel sorry for them.

When I was on a lease with a NO KIDS rule it was because we were all young and cared more about getting drunk and going to Cuna.

Since then I've been on/to some leases that were "G" rated some that were not "G" rated

If you don't like it don't get on the lease.

Every lease is not a kid friendly lease...its a fact.

Just like every movie is not a kid friendly movie and every resturaunt is not a kid friendly eatery.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

it's hard to put blame on a kid when he/she did something really stupid

can always take an adult to court and force payments/reimbursement for damages, not so for a kid

if you don't like landowner's rules then go buy your own

Please for the mercy of all men hunt with your children while they are youngins and trainable. The worst on leases is these young adult know it alls hunters that aints never hunted a day in their life making all kinds of mistakes and disrespectables to all hunters and you can't teach them anything because they know everything alreadys. I guess they learns hunting on the internets and that makes them experts. We all know that guy and can spot him a mile away. They green as can be pretending to be ripe. Children are not the problem on leases.

I was on a place once and this one guy would bring his two really young sons and they were so out of controll..it was scary..letting them play with hatchets..knifes..they hardly ever wore shoes..he would put em on his POS atv..on the back..etc. I left there when the season was over. Iam all for taking kids to the lease..I took mine and we take my grand daughter..and soon we will take my grandson.

Yeah this is really old.

Ill give my 2 cents even though I'm in the minority right now.

There are plenty of hunters in this state that don't have kids or don't like em.
What's wrong with that? If you have a kid, too bad. That lease isn't for you, move on.
Not trying to be an [censored] but who really cares. The owner can set the rules to allow kids/no kids, drinking/no drinking, mature bucks only/does only.. Etc...

When I have a kid obviously this will change but for now I certainly don't care if a lease I'm interested in allows kids or not. All about big bucks right now.

I bet my kid and BMD's kid kill bigger bucks than you. banana

Of course we probably wouldn't have liked you around as a kid either, so I see your point.

And you are right, we all go through stages as a hunter. One day you will be in a stand with a snotty nosed kid and a Barney doll. It happens to the best of us.

The only way that hunting is going to stay alive, is if we do take kids to the outdoors and hunting. I bet most all of us that hunt today started as a kid with our dad, grandfather, etc...

I think you would have liked me just fine as a kid A.B., im a pretty good dude that roots for everybody, even kids at this day and time.
My point is there is a lot of land out there and you can choose what land you want to hunt. Just like there are nude only resorts in Cancun and people that won't bare it all aren't allowed. If you don't want to bare it all I would advise you take your wife elsewhere. Such as a resort that allows everyone, get my drift...I know you're messin with me so this post is harmless and I hope your kids shoot a 200" er this year!!

You know what A.B., you're 100% on the Barney and snotty nose kid comment... I will at that point be in search of places to take my kids for sure so they too can experience the great outdoors but I don't disagree with those folks that don't want/like kids and want a kid free lease. Too much land out there and most allow em already.

Of course I am just messing with you. You are in a place in your life that we all were once. Not a thing in the world wrong with that.

I agree with that.

I think there is way to many parents that let there kids run wild on leases, which has put a bad taste in so many ranch owners mouths.

Agree 100%...I have taken my 12 year old grandson since he was around 5...now if he does not go , I don't seem to enjoy myself as much. Fortunately I have not been around the little ones who make everyone unhappy. We have to enjoy the lease.
