Now I know most of us don't make the rules on leases but why in the freakin world would a lease not allow kids? I mean, if we want to pass on hunting to the future generations, how are we going to do that by being on a lease OR making a rule where kids aren't even allowed to be there?

Maybe it was made due to some bad happenings with kids running wild on the lease before. I can see both sides of this...with us having kids on the lease(another story) but also as a parent, wanting our kids to be able to get out there & enjoy.

Makes no sense at all, does it? You could ask any one of my 7 kids what their best memory is and it would have something to do with the deer lease. They all learned how to hunt there. They all learned how to drive there. They all made their first harvest there. And to tell you the truth their ol' man has great memories of 'em there. I'm lookin forward to my grandkids hunting with me there. No kids, I'm out. End of story. If someones got something going on that they don't want kids there I dang sure don't want to be there.

My son and I are fortunate enough to hunt on a small place my dad owns. I couldn't imagine him not being able to go with me though. We've had some of our best times sitting watching the sun rise/set and just talking. Peace for our relationship and soul.

Because there are those who will abuse it. I will be hunting my daughter this weekend on a lease where I am a member. However, she will be hunting on my tag because I made it point to take a buck on another property in that county this season.
Again, I have kids myself. Still, I prefer leases where members pay per gun, or your kids and guests are hunting off your tag and lease quota. It's only fair to other members who don't have kids and prefer not to bring guests.
If they don't want kids at all, I'm sure it's an issue of liability. How many times have you seen someone bring their eight-year-old to the lease and the first thing he/she does is head off on a 500cc ATV without supervision. A "no kids" policy takes care of parents who never grew up themselves.
There are also those who prefer a more "adult" environment. Deer camp can be a "special place" for some guys, a place there they need not watch their language, or worry about who hears their farts. While this may sound like a bunch of hard %$$ men, I can respect such feelings.

I've spent some time perusing the websites of various anti-hunting groups over the years and reading many of their prized accomplishments/mission statments/letters to the editor in the process. It bodes well to know the thought processes and tactics of one's adversary.
Anyway, one common thread that I see in many of these readings is the joy that is brought about when it is discussed that the numbers of hunters in regards to most, if not all, types of game is now on the decline and has been for some time. Most of them, while realizing they can't stop hunting in its tracks, know that the numbers who will fight for that right are dwindling quickly and that hunters like ourselves will soon be a very small and therefore quiet group with less and less political clout as we make our way to extinction. This is actually somewhat of a rallying cry, if you will, among some of the "urban elite." They think they'll eventually get what they want just because of atrition and our own stupidity and inability to "reproduce."
What disturbs me more than what I write about above is that some in our community seem blind to this issue.....not introducing to and including kids in our world is eating our own, so to speak, and ultimately destructive to what we say we hold so dear.
Now I understand not having your kids around deer camp during certain times/weekends or whatever. As a guy who's been on quite a few leases, I value my time with my buddies without the wife or kids as much as anyone....and actually feel the need for such. But not having kids even allowed on a lease fully supervised, etc., to hunt dove, fish, sit in the stand, learn to shoot, or even take a deer against dad's quota, etc., does not bode well at all for the future of our sport and is completely counterproductive to our way of life.
Food for thought.....

That's where HOME TRAINING comes in. Seems like parents are afraid to tell their kids NO anymore. YOU gotta set limits. Kids now days don't say "yes sir and yes ma'am, no thank you and please" anymore. My kids were raised that way and still do today.

I desire to have time at deer camp with my buddies too, they are Haley 14 and Josh 10. I would not even consider hunting without them. This has lead to drifting apart from some of my old hunting buddies, but such is life. When I was young, back in the 80's, I was not allowed to hunt with my dad until Thanksgiving. They had to have only men until then, in other words they wanted to get drunk as hell.... I see both sides, but Im all about my kids.

You know there are some guys that don't have kids, don't like kids and don't want kids...... Me I can't wait to take my son......
But I am sure as hell not going to knock someone that makes those rules.....that is their deal.....
There are just as many that will allow kids......don't knock it.....
kinda like drinking.....or smoking.....
we really don't want our kids to do it......but a bunch of people do it in front of their kids anyway.....
I can't help but feel sorry for kids that have to ride in the car with people that smoke.....but what can i do.....
just move on......
So let's just move on....

I dont understand it either, maybe the abuse part, or a liability. but i just dont give the "no children allowed" leases a 2nd look. or the one with "no guests allowed"

What for? I thought it was an interesting topic and the posts have been well-thought-out and presented in a civil fashion. Not really "knocking" anybody, just stating thoughts and facts as we see them on a topic that seriously affects the future of hunting.
Wanna' move on? Have at it....think I'll stay and discuss it if it's all right with ya'.

I aint knockin it. If the guys across the road don't want kids I'm OK with that. All I'm saying is If my family aint welcome I wouldn't be there, I'd be somewhere else. That's the great thing about a deer lease, all aint mandatory. I respect anybody that don't want kids on their lease. Just aint my cup o' tea. There's a lot of different ways of huntin, I just prefer certain things that's all.

to me there is nothing better than sitting at the camp fire next to a kid who wont shut up and wont listen. granted this kid isnt mine. you may ask wheres his dad? probably in the house watching the game. also some ask about the declining numbers of hunters? i dont have a problem with that either. i know its not like that on all deer leases but i bet it is on a lot of them. if i wanted to look after kids id stay home.

You fail to see the point at all. Thanks for pointing out that this is only an issue on one lease out of thousands. Where did you get that tidbit of info?

Here's an example of what I mean by affecting the future of our sport....a letter to the editor of a Texas newspaper from the president of Wildlife Watch out of New York. Pay particular attention to the statistics he gives regarding the number of dove hunters in Texas. It's sickening, but factually accurate and only accelerated by the lack of new and younger blood being introduced to hunting. THAT was the point of my post..... Commission to Abolish Sport Hunting letter to the editor

I don't know...where did you get your info that it is affecting the future of hunting because a group of guys don't want kids at the deer lease......

BMD I don't want your kid at the lease.....she will shoot a bigger deer....

Nope just pick and choose...
are you serious......your going to use a dove hunting article and tie it to a deer camp.....Lots of factors come into to play with people not hunting......
the economy and cost is a major factor.....
I have already seen that article and 2 others....one from North American Hunting Club and the decline of the American Hunter......
The original post though talked about a deer lease and you bring out that it affects the future of hunting.....
Oh well... you say potato and I say potato....

It was not a deer lease....it was deer leases said in such a way to be intimating a thread more common than just one. Again, go read it! And deer hunting is dwindling faster than dove hunting if that LTE wasn't enough to bother you.
Bottom line is the OP started a thread about his thoughts on not allowing kids to take part in hunting. Several posts from myself and others followed without a harsh word directed at anyone, including yours....only until you had to tell us to "move on." WTF?
You gonna' follow your own advice?
AND BTW....if you think not allowing kids to take part in hunting DOESN'T affect the future of hunting, you are in serious denial. I hate to think anyone could be that blind.
