I personally enjoy a little place called the "Green Frog" in Jacksboro....their chicken fried steak is tender and as big as the plate.....

JB you hit it right on the money. Me and Dad always stop at the Green Frog on the way back from the lease. Also my wife keeps going on and on about how good the chicken fried steak is at Babes Chicken Dinner House in Sanger.

We gotta take the wives out there one night so I can try one. Until then Green Frog and Marys are tops in my book.

Hey, we ate at the Green Frog this year on the way from Breckenridge to the deer lease looking for dove. The chicken fry was the best I have had in a long time. Plus it is all you can eat. I don't think I have ever been to Jacksboro except that one time and it looked like the best place to eat...

Txduckman, We go through Jacksboro every other weekend to and from the lease. If dad is with me we stop at the Green Frog but the Dairyland BBQ place is good as well. Both places are packed during hunting season. We were there (Green Frog) Saturday night and everyone that was in there had camo on. Don't overlook the hamburger steak at the Frog, best brown gravy I've ever ate.

Never been to Mary's but, I always stop by Smokestack in Thurber for a chicken fry before getting to the lease. All their food is wonderful.

Love Mary's for Mexican food, but have never had the Chicken Fried Steak. IMO Jake & Dorothy's in Stephenville had the best chicken fried steak.
Of course I haven't been there in several years, wonder if it's still opened?

All of y'all must be smokin crack. Mary's?????? I live 10 minutes away from Marys. I have lived here for 14 years ate there 5 times and swore I would never be back every time I left. But each time I decided to give them another chance. The service is slow. Takes three weeks to get your meal and the place is extremely noisy. Leave that place to the out of towners. The locals know better. Go across the street to Flossies. The steak is bigger than the plate and is served with a BIG bowl of gravy. When you get done grab a good soft serve ice cream cone on the house. Or take a drive over to Mingus. Go to BJ's and get an awesome pizza. Or The Smokestack for an exclent steak. Or across I-20 from the Smoke Stack to New York Hill for a chicken fry or some very good pork chops. Marys??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> This is spot on. I was there a year ago service was very slow, cfs was only lukewarm and taste was non-existant.

Yeah, and 10 years later and Mary's still sucks. I don't know what that is that they serve but it ain't what I call chicken fried steak.

I think those that like the steak so much there are looking at quantity more so than quality. Babe's is very good eats IMO

Babe's IS very good eats for sure...but the incessant noise keeps me from ever going back. Mebbe I should wear ear plugs and ignore the Macarena Dancers too... I know I know I'm just a grumpy old fart who used to could & DID abuse my hearing....and NOW I ain't got none almost.

I think they use cheaper chicken. Was not impressed compared to 5 years ago. Definitely no free range chicken.
